In this article we highlight five prospects from our Fall Showcase, "The Expo", that took place over this past weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. Each player listed below would be considered a better than average individual at the Guard position compared to others their age and they understand the game of basketball at a high level, both mentally and physically.

I am a fan of [player_tooltip player_id='1044940' first='Hadley' last='Riehle'] and what she can bring to the court. I had the chance to see Riehle compete this past AAU season with her Air Minnesota team but since then, she has seemingly gotten better. On Saturday, she demonstrated that she can beat her defender down the floor with her elite bursts of speed, she can wall up and stay in front of quick opponents across from her on the defensive side, and she is someone that is willing to sacrifice her body for her squad without asking any questions. Crestwood High School is going to have a field day with Riehle coming in as a Freshman this Winter. If they make the right calls and move her up right away, I'm sure we will hear about her more and more before her Freshman season comes to a close.

Ankeny High School is going to return this Winter with some vengeance on their mind, along with most of their productive prospects from last Varsity season. One of those prospect being 2026 - SG, [player_tooltip player_id='1044947' first='Kyla' last='Schaapveld']. Schaapveld demonstrated over this last week that she is a three point threat, a coordinated player, and someone that still has room to grow her overall game. Last Winter for Ankeny, Schaapveld saw the floor in moderation, mainly being a three point threat, taking 44 of her 53 FG attempts from beyond the three point line throughout the year. I could see that being her role once again this Winter with the playmakers they have returning but I think she can also be more than just a catch-and-shoot prospect. If she does anything like she showed during our Showcase, she is going to find herself on the hardwood in some big moments these next six months. She does a lot of positive things and she isn't going to hurt you too much when things do break down from a coaching perspective. Those two factors can keep an individual on the floor most of the season so it wouldn't shock me if that's the case this Winter but we will just have to wait and see.

Peterson displayed during the weekend that when she is determined to get to the basket, she is usually successful. I saw some great drives and internal motivation out of Peterson at this event. She stayed hungry on the offensive side of the floor, while attacking her defenders hips off the dribble. She also knocked down open shots when it was passed back to her, and she played team ball while still handling her own in different facets of the game. I'm excited for this upcoming season and how Peterson might do. If she competes with a chip on her shoulder like she did on Saturday, she should register some nice numbers in her efforts before the season finishes out.

One of my first comments of the day was that [player_tooltip player_id='1044946' first='Keragan' last='Van Zante'] had a sweet shooting stroke while letting the ball go from all over the floor. Following this, Van Zante built on her fast start and played some meaningful basketball. She handled pressure well from the wing, she stayed confident, and she understood the situation at hand. At Norwalk this Winter, everyone should eat with who they have returning and Van Zante is in that conversation as well. She is going to get her chances, if she can take full advantage of them and she makes the defense pay, then they are going to love how their season shapes out as a whole.

[player_tooltip player_id='1044944' first='Kalyn' last='Scamman'] is one of those prospects that plays high school out of Iowa but AAU out of Nebraska. During this Showcase, Scamman came in late from another sport and still competed to her highest ability. She showed why she was selected to play on the top team at her AAU program with how she can fit into most roles given to her. At the guard position, her coordination, first step movement from side to side, and communication is noteworthy compared to others at her Class level. It'll be interesting to see how far she can take things this Winter season at Shenandoah High School. She is going to return as one of their main producers this time around and I think she will live up to those expectations. From everything I've seen, on any floor she is pretty solid so I wouldn't expect anything less moving into the high school season these next few weeks.
