In this article we highlight five prospects that competed in our PGH Iowa - The Expo Event in Des Moines this past weekend. Each prospect is someone that stands over 5'11 in height and they are all individuals that possess some impressive skill-sets as well. When you combined those two factors, it usually leads to a lot of success on the basketball court.

[player_tooltip player_id='1044926' first='Alyssa' last='Schroeder'] of North Scott High School is a promising young talent at the Forward/CG position, that should be a vital piece to her team's success over these next three Varsity seasons. Schroeder has that mixture of length, athletic ability, and smarts that every coach loves to see. It doesn't matter at which level, if you have those three things, you can make a difference if you are put in the correct situation and Schroeder possesses that. Her progression will be a major key to her future moving forward but that shouldn't be a problem. She showed out as one of the better competitors on the day at her position and that should keep her locked in mentally moving into the high school season.

It's going to be an interesting situation at Dowling Catholic the next few years for [player_tooltip player_id='1044950' first='Loralai' last='Gilmore'] but I think by the time she gets to being a Junior/Senior, that she will be on the Varsity floor for a majority of their minutes. Gilmore is a 6'1 Forward, that navigates pretty well near the hoop. In most other Varsity systems across the state, she would start but at DC, it's different. They don't play many players at the Varsity level, they have a future D1 prospect already dominating the lane for two more years in [player_tooltip player_id='582813' first='Ellie' last='Muller'], and they win a lot because of both of those factors so I don't expect anything to change moving forward. Gilmore is a solid prospect by the hoop, that is going to be a steal for some collegiate program one day if her ambitions are to continue on her basketball journey following high school. She demonstrated glimpses of promise over and over this weekend, while competing against some other talented Forwards. All in all, she had a better day than a lot of others and it was noteworthy from afar.

[player_tooltip player_id='1044925' first='Alaina' last='Canney'] is going to put up some numbers this Winter if she gets on the Varsity floor for some meaningful minutes. Canney has size at 6'2, physicality under the hoop, a soft touch on the basketball, and she is a solid all around teammate to others. During this event, Canney did her job of taking up space on the block and playing with her back to the basket. She also did a solid job of getting up and down the floor, beating her opponent while running rim-to-rim, usually leading to easy buckets in the grand scheme of things. At Kennedy this Winter, they are going to need a bruiser down low to control the painted area and I think Canney will be able to do that at a thorough rate. She showed solid promise on Saturday, now she just has to build on that.

Cedar Falls High School is going to be looking for a lot of production this Winter, after losing their main producer from the past few seasons due to graduation. Someone out of their 2027 Class, that I'm a big fan of and who could make some waves this season is 5'11 SG, [player_tooltip player_id='1044962' first='Taylor' last='Vore']. Vore has natural length, a sweet shooting stroke, and a fundamental base to build off of in whatever she is attempting to do. Defensively, she reacts quickly to anything happening around her and the natural instincts that she brings to the table are second-to-none at times. With the Tigers this Winter, I wouldn't be surprised if Vore put together a solid reason with some better than average numbers across the board. She showed this weekend that she can take opportunity and turn it into positive plays so I'll be looking out for that over these next six months.

Prior to competing at this event, once a prospect signed in and received their gear, they then went to take a headshot and to get measured so that we have an accurate size description for each participant. During this time, the tallest player of the day registered in at 6'5, that being Center, [player_tooltip player_id='1044927' first='Ashleigh' last='Amble'] of Clear Lake High School. Amble, was the tallest prospect in the building by a good amount. Her mixture of size with her natural touch on the ball and her footwork near the block stands out to anyone watching, quite literally. Not to mention, she is a defensive weapon at all moments in the paint. She is someone that the opponent needs to worry about while attacking and beating their original defender. If not, it's going to end in a block for Amble a majority of the time. I already know a few collegiate recruiters that have shown interest in Amble these past few months. If she continues to work on the fundamentals of her game, she could turn out to be very dangerous of the hardwood, somewhere down the line.
