There was a bunch of solid guard play taking place throughout the weekend at The PGH NE Expo Showcase. In this piece, we talk about five prospects out of the state of Nebraska, that showed a solid foundation during this event. Each player is someone that should make a Varsity impact this upcoming season as long they stay locked in at the task at hand.

[player_tooltip player_id='1045011' first='Kamryn' last='Scott'] put together an all around solid day at this event. Scott showed off her shifty dribbling ability, her knowledge of the game, and her quick feet early on during the skill-side of things. From there, she put together some great games of 3v3 and even some impressive games of 5v5. Scott is someone that understands that she doesn't have to score to be successful and she is a teammate that is willing to sacrifice her body for the good of her squad. I imagine Scott will put up some noteworthy numbers this Winter at Alma High School. If she keeps this momentum rolling. Which it should because I don't see why not.

I don't not know the roster that Aquinas Catholic is bringing to the floor quite yet for this upcoming season but it's hard to believe that [player_tooltip player_id='1045006' first='Faith' last='Samek'] won't be a crucial part to their plan over these next couple of years. Samek will come in as a 5'8 Freshman this Winter and she will be ready to start things off with a bang. This is a prospect that can do a number of positive things on the hardwood, depending on what is being asked of her. She can play the PG spot and pass off the rock with ease, she can move off the ball and attack off the catch, or she can play physical ball down low near the paint. As long as she finds her niche early on at AC high school, she is going to be fine. She put together a solid day at this event and she should be proud of that.

This was the first time I've had the chance to see [player_tooltip player_id='1045021' first='Olivia' last='Brown'] compete up close and she showed off a lot of promise. Brown competes on the western side of the state, right on the Colorado boarder, so the amount of times she makes the seven hour trip East is far and few. As a prospect, I like what Brown brings to the floor. She has the widest shooting base I've seen in a while, always giving herself balance. It's a major key for PG's to play off of two feet or to have a wide base, so that they can adapt to situations quickly and use their pivots to their max. I think that Brown embodies that. She is a lefty that can score from all three offensive levels, she is a great creator in transition, and most importantly - she plays the game the right way and with a really positive attitude. When you combined all of that, you see the promise and know there is something good here.

What [player_tooltip player_id='1045010' first='Jenna' last='Benjamin'] brings to the table is positive energy, solid play in both the half and full courts, and a ton of heart. During our showcase, Benjamin had her moments of standing out as a respectable prospect in most facets of the game. She was able to play on or off the ball, she was playing the game how it should be played, and she made the most of her opportunities. With her transfer to Skutt Catholic this school year, it's going to be interesting to see how Benjamin fits into their system. I think this is a really positive situation for both parties, they just need to work on their chemistry moving forward and then the success will follow.

Speaking of determined guards and the name Skyler Johnson pops out almost immediately. Johnson is going to be a 5'4 Freshman at Bellevue West this Winter and I think she is going to slowly become a big contributor to her program. Johnson should run the PG position at the high school level with her mixture of speed, vision, and tenacity. She demonstrated on Sunday that she is a willing driver who can finish with either hand, she is a solid defender against alike sized opponents, and she is someone that is not selfless by any means. When I had the chance to talk to Johnson after one of her 5v5 games, she was down to earth and locked in on what I was trying to teach her. That's something coaches love to see at all level and that's going to help her in the long run.
