The Rhythm of Basketball: Music’s Impact on Players

Musicians want to be ballplayers. Ballplayers want to be musicians. Their beats and rhythms vibrate pregame during our headphones, during warmups, in between timeouts, during halftime, and of course celebrating a victory. In training, when I am giving a player a cadence of a move, I use&nbsp; rhythm to describe how I want the action to take place. Music makes you feel good. It gets you hyped. Music is creativity, and that is what I bring to you in these writings.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As I close my writings about the Tennessee Expo last weekend, of course something musical came to mind. You are going to think this is funny, but Cardi B's song “Up” just kept oozing through my head. I will not quote the lyrics, but the beat to that song is nice. Using the title made me think about all the young ladies from the event who are going “ Up, Up, Up”. For starters, all these young ladies are about to take off, especially the ones who came to the event. I am just going to say this, there are some girls who are going “Up” this season for their school team. The confidence is there and now so is the opportunity. Physical kid who can pound on the inside or display quickness from the perimeter. Can shoot the 3 ball, but anywhere on the interior is where she makes her living. Battles around the blocks, knocks down the mid-range shots, love her ability to just keep going and going as she finds the best position to exploit an opponent's weakness. Contributes on the boards on both ends. Has such quickness that enables her to contort her body against contact to finish at the rim. Mid-range, short corners, she's on point from those areas. Big in the rebound game and of course blocks shots. I love how she can get up and down the floor and teammates hit her in stride for easy transition buckets. This kid is on the upswing. Can shoot it from the arc, has nice moves to the basket. I believe once it clicks for her as far as confidence goes, this kid is going to be a menace to society. Plays solid defense. Helps out in other statistical categories. Hard working kid who has a nice stroke from the arc. This kid plays tough. Hustles, hits clutch shots from multiple, communicates, really impressive. Offensively, she knows how to put the ball in the net. From 3, putting it on the floor, she is always in relentless pursuit of scoring. Defensively, she will sit down and guard, making it tough for opponent's to operate. Love her mental makeup and approach to the game. She was a downhill threat, taking her opponent's off the bounce. Plays with relentless effort, she gave kids guarding her fits as she sliced through the defense. A solid two-way player who competes each and every possession. Contributes on the boards, makes timely assists, you can tell she is poised to have a big upcoming season for the Lady Burros. This kid is solid and look for her to take the next steps of being a major factor for the green and gold program.<br></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
