High school tryouts are quickly approaching. Growing up, I remember the excitement of reading preview magazines for my favorite sports teams and learning about key players before the season started. The enthusiasm and excitement I have for the Michigan Varsity Girls Basketball season has been building since the end of AAU, which leads to my endeavor to write these conference preview articles. Every coach and team in the state has the desire to perform better than they did the previous season in their conference and in the playoffs. Each year there are coaching changes, graduations, transfers, and varsity additions that shift the dynamics of teams in the conference. The Capital Area Activities Association consists of 21 teams separated into three divisions. The Blue Division includes DeWitt, East Lansing, Holt, Grand Ledge, Lansing Everett, Okemos, and Lansing Waverly. The Red Division includes Fowlerville, Haslett, Lansing Eastern, Mason, St. Johns, and Williamston. The White Division includes Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Ionia, Lakewood, Lansing Catholic, Lansing Sexton, Olivet, and Portland. Each division has its own champion with divisional opponents playing twice. 2023 results, 2024 predictions for the CAAC White, and player previews for each team are included below.

Elle jumped into a leading role for Eaton Rapids as a freshman and I expect her to exceed that production as a sophomore. She showed her sharpshooting from the perimeter by hitting four triples against an elite Lansing Catholic team last season, ending the game with 14 pts and 8 boards. Elle has good footwork in the paint and effective finishing touch around the basket. She disrupts shots with her length and aggressively pursues rebounds. Elle will be an exciting wing prospect to watch in 2024.

Heidi was an intriguing point guard prospect at our Freshman showcase in August.
Lansing Catholic will have a new look this winter and I expect Kyra to be a marquee player for the Cougars. Kyra had an excellent travel season and was one of the best center prospects at the Expo in September. Kyra uses her length to block shots inside and is very difficult to defend because of her footwork in the low post. Kyra has added muscle to her frame and is an effective mid-range shooter. She gives the Cougars an advantage finishing at the rim and securing rebounds. Kyra will be a breakout player for Lansing Catholic in 2024.

Magan is a wing with height who had an outstanding sophomore season at Olivet. She makes an impact defensively by using her length to block shots, deflect passes, and create steals. Magan pushes the ball with pace to score in transition and drives hard to the basket. She knocks down shots from the perimeter, pursues rebounds, and has a burst off the dribble.
Lilly excelled as a sophomore and with Malia graduating (LSSU), she will have an even bigger role for Portland this winter. Lilly is an effective 3-point shooter who also beats defenders with her quick downhill dribbles. She sees the floor and dishes accurate passes to open teammates. Lilly communicates, creates steals, and pursues rebounds. She converts difficult shots in traffic and has been a consistent top performer at PGH events.
