Clarence Johnson Preseason Jamboree: 2026 Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><br>Clarence Johnson was a former Mallard Creek coach who was well loved throughout the Charlotte area devoting his time not only to coach but to empower young athletes.  On Saturday, Mallard Creek hosted a preseason jamboree in his name to memorialize the impact he had.  Let's take a look at some of the 2026 standouts from the event.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- the top defenders in the state and an excellent two-way player.  Her instincts on defense are sure to come up with steals whether she's getting in the way of passes or knocking the ball away from someone trying to dribble by her.  She's tough attacking the basket herself, especially off of these steals, and she moves well without the ball relocating to find the open position.</p> <!-- ball handler pushing the tempo and finding her open teammates hitting them in stride.  She was a tough defender, too, moving all over the court on the press and hustling after loose balls to gain has some nice handles on the court being able to move well with the ball, and she always seems to be thinking one step ahead knowing exactly where to go with the ball to make a nice play for her off her quickness getting to the rim and making effective cuts to score off the pass.  She had some nice plays from the free throw line catching the pass, facing the basket to evaluate what she can do, and driving to the right spot to score her points.  Her box outs are so tough making sure her opponent doesn't have a chance to get the ball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- plays with the ball in her hands.  She knows how to find the openings with the ball changing her direction quickly to lose her defenders.  She doesn't back down from contact attacking the basket even with hands in her face, and she always keeps her eyes peeled for the next best play when she's bringing the ball up the court.  She plays well at the top of her team's defense using her length to
