Class A Region 2 Preview - Devils Lake

The Devils Lake Firebirds return a lot of fire power from last year's State Championship team. Justin Klein should be very excited to coach this team with three All-Region selections and the state tournament MVP returning from last year's squad.    Torri is the 'linebacker' of the Firebirds' full court press. She anchors and dictates how the press is ran each possession and is a very pesky defender. She is the 2nd overall steals returner in all of Class A with 95. She is a steady scorer at 8 points per game and also dished out an impressive 84 assists. Torri, an All-Region selection from last season, will be eager to have another solid season and help lead this team back to the state tournament.     Cabryn is an elite athlete who is a big time contributor for Devils Lake. She was an All-Region selection last year and has a handful of regional NAIA and D3 schools interested in her including Mayville State and Concordia College. I really like how Cabryn is able to rebound and push the ball herself in transition. She is an effective finisher in the full court and is very good at anticipating when to jump in the Firebirds' full court run and jump press. Cabryn is going to have another superb season and creates a great 1-2 defensive combo alongside Torri in their press game.     Claire is a solid role player and a key piece to the Firebirds having a chance at repeating as State Champions in 24-25. She fits right into Devils Lake's fast paced tempo and is able to defend multiple positions in their press. She is able to finish in transition and I am impressed with her ability to initiate contact on drives and finish at the rim. Claire will continue to be a great role player for the Firebirds in 24-25.     Jolie is another solid role player that can fit multiple different lineups and defend multiple positions. She is a very good athlete and has the ability to defend people taller than her due to her strength and physicality. She is great as a back line defender in their press. She also does a great job of helping as a secondary defender when opponents drive past her teammates. Many of her blocks from last season were as a secondary defender. Jolie is a great piece to the Firebirds' success.     Presley is a powerful athlete and also has the ability to defend multiple positions. I really like her as the midline defender in DL's press. She is able to close gaps and jump the ball handler which leads to plenty of steals for her team. She is terrific defensively in the half court as well; she is able to jump to the ball, close the gap, and keep opponents in front of her. I really appreciate Presley's ability to play quality defense.     Tylie is the reigning State Tournament MVP and an All-Region selection from last season. She is the Firebirds' leading returning scorer at 14 points per game. She is also their best 3 point shooter, netting 58 three pointers last season. She has great form and her teammates do a really good job of finding her on drive and kick opportunities. Tylie also does a nice job of anticipating when to gamble on steals and finishes well in transition. Tylie is a young star who is only going to get better as she progresses through high school.    The Firebirds have all the pieces to make a deep run in the State Tournament this season. Their defensive intensity is very difficult to prepare for and Coach Klein has multiple players who can score in double figures every night. I predict Devils Lake having a great season and winning Region 2.
