For a majority of teams across the state of Iowa, the first game of the season is usually in place as an exhibition. While this event may not impact any actual records for the 2024 - 2025 season, they are important to observe so that we understand what programs are going to try to accomplish over the next six months within their offensive and defensive schemes. In this article we highlight some prospects that stood out in their exhibition game to kick things off this past week.

[player_tooltip player_id='1044953' first='Macy' last='Meyer'] of DCG is going to be a killer this season on the Varsity floor. Meyer is a guard that stepped up at the Varsity level and did some work but she is ready to take a huge step up this Winter. At the DCG scrimmage this past week, they competed against SEP and Meyer was a hands-down standout. She got to the rim at Will every time she attempts too, making it look incredibly easy on each drive into the middle against her defender. The Mustangs are going to come back this Winter with Meyer leading the charge in a sense. She is going to be one of their main producers, if not thee main producer once the dust settles at the end of the year.

North Polk returns as a favorite in their Class to bring home the State Title. If they want to accomplish that, their post prospect [player_tooltip player_id='311356' first='Rebecca' last='Aagard'] is going to have to play well. Really, really, really well. Against Dowling Catholic the other night, Aagard played really well inside the paint against a future D1 prospect in [player_tooltip player_id='582813' first='Ellie' last='Muller']. In the end, I would say that Aagard held her own and impressed most that were spectating. If she continues up with this production and everyone else can continue to step up, they are going to be the team to beat this Winter in the 4A Class.

A big reason that the Comets are favorited in a lot of contests this winter is because of their underclassman group. They have a program that is filled with promising, young players and they are going to be looked upon for some meaningful production this season. Someone that comes to mind, who has been playing extremely well on the offensive end thus far is [player_tooltip player_id='655384' first='Campbell' last='Schulz']. She scored over 12 points in their most recent contest and she did it pretty efficiently. She kept things simple, played through their system, and everyone was successful in the end because of it. It's going to be fun to see North Polk go to work. If things fall into place, they are going to win a lot of games over the next few months.

The Nodaway Valley Wolverines had the opportunity to play a few times before their actual season kicks off this next week. The Wolverines are going to be led by the future college commit, [player_tooltip player_id='510277' first='Izzy' last='Eisbach'] but someone else that is going to need to step up big time is their CG - [player_tooltip player_id='842594' first='Maddie' last='Weston'] and she has done a respectable job of that to kick things off. She is competing with an edge, staying mentally locked in, and making the most of the chances that she gets when teams pay too much attention to others on her team. With her fundamental handle and quick footwork, this is someone that is sure to jump off the screen for the Wolverines for one last year before her Senior season comes to an end.

CR - Jefferson is a young and talented group, that is going to thrive with their youth but someone from this team that is going to be a fantastic Senior leader over the next six months is Keleigh Yanacheak at the SG position. Yanacheak is an able defender against elite oppositions, she understands how to get downhill offensively while turning a corner, and she plays off of two feet once she gets into the middle of the defense. This season Yanacheak has started off the season on the right foot in their first scrimmage and she is looking to carry on with that momentum moving forward.
