PCA Lady Lions: A Legacy of Steady and Consistent Performance

Steady and Consistent. Two words that describe the Providence Christian Academy Lady Lions program.   Steady- this program is known to bring their lunch pail each and every day to compete. Doesn't matter if they are the favorite or not, they are always going to give you their best game. If they are the favorites, they dominate. If they aren't, their game will rise to the challenge. Either way, this team has an identity, sticks to it, and goes out there and plays their best version of themselves collectively. They are going to do what they do no matter who the opponent is.   Consistent-  They have a balanced attack and like I mentioned earlier, they are going to play their style of game. They will run their stuff efficiently and effectively. They execute to the T, sucking the life out of an opponent. They have bigs that can do work not only in the paint, but mid range areas. Guards who can get paint touches and shoot the three ball. Not only do they score the basketball, they defend as well. Add in the little things such as taking charges, diving for loose balls, boxing out. PCA is a fundamentally sound basketball club that prides themselves in work ethic.   Last season the team was 22-5 overall, going 12-0 in the district. They had exceptional play from their guards last year, who have gone onto play collegiate ball. However, their bigs return and they are looking to pick up where they left off. Adding Webb back into the fold, possesses the only threat in the district down low for the Lady Lions. However, they will be a top four team who will contend for an opportunity to go to state. Coach Tara James really has these girls get after it. It's evident in their style of play. She has molded them into her image of tough, solid basketball players, and these girls go out there and compete.   This upcoming season should be one with a lot of optimism. PCA may have lost some senior leadership, however they have gained young, quicker, and shiftier guards who can fill that void. Dominating the glass and the mid-range will still be their M.O. This team is going to be hard to handle. I will say this, each and every year, come tournament time, this is one of the hardest clubs around to play. They value each and every possession and play so poised come February and March. Coaches, try to figure them out now because when it gets later in the season, it may be too late. Solid ball club who are definitely contenders.   Here are some ballplayers who will be suiting up for the PCA Lady Lions this upcoming season.    Dominanteing big who is a force in the paint. Great in the screen game and high-low action. Can play with her back to the basket or face up and score it. She is big on the boards on both ends. Owning the paint, eliminating second chance opportunities for opponents. She's a shot blocker, providing a no fly zone down low. This kid is a force, hard to handle, and is solid on both ends. Look for her to dominate the district and help the Lady Lions contend for bigger things. Big-time player with a bright future.     Stretch 4 that has great size and length. Can play in the interior, or stretch the floor and play on the perimeter. She too is great in the high-low action. Has a nice touch from the mid-range, where she possesses a threat to teams. This kid can block shots, contributes on the boards, and clogs up the lanes. I love her ability to run her floor in transition and get over the top passes that lead to finishes. Solid kid who is poised to have a big year.     She is just an athlete. A sensational freshman that uses her speed as a threat to get by defenders. This kid can score from multiple ways, but she will be tasked to steer the ship as the Lady Lions attack on the offensive end. This kid is a stud of an athlete and uses her instincts and athleticism to her advantage. Fast twitch hips, quick feet and solid hands, this kid is going to be a problem. A perfect fit for a Lady Lions ball club who graduated some pretty good guards. Eva's name will be someone to keep an eye out for on the hardwood as well as the soccer field.     She is the glue for this ball club and she will make this team go. She is a solid individual who is just around the basketball at all times. She is a heady basketball player who has good court awareness and great instincts. She can score from multiple spots on the floor, but turns it on at the defensive end. Steals, deflections, rebounds, this kid is solid on that end of the floor. Look for her to contribute and be big time in clutch moments. Solid kid with gets after it on every possession.     Solid wing who contributes all across the board. The kid can score it from the arc, finish in the mid-range, make timely passes. However, she is active on D, locking up the opposition, getting steals, and rebounding the basketball. She will come into the program looking to provide a spark to this Lady Lions club. She is going to star in her role and pose as another threat for coaches to game plan for. Fundamentally sound ball player who is ready to come in and light this district on fire!     An exciting prospect who will provide an extra boost for this Lady Lions ball club. I love her demeanor and how she approaches the game. Has a beautiful shot release from the arc, can create and put the ball on the floor, can finish in the paint. She is a little shiftiness to her game and tight handles. Abby is a scoring guard who can fill it up and does so with confidence. Solid defender with great footwork and quick hands. Even though she will be a freshman this season, look for her to come in and provide quality minutes for this ball club. She plays hard on both ends of the floor.
