Kindred and Central Cass had an exciting game in Region 1 action this past Monday. Kindred came out firing on all cylinders, building a 15-0 lead after the first quarter. Their tough full-court press and half-court 1-3-1 defense led to many easy buckets. Once Central Cass settled in, they were able to cut the lead to 35-37 by the end of the third quarter. Central Cass kept plucking away and eventually was able to win 58-52. These are two good teams with many quality players.

Avah had a great game for the Squirrels. The senior leader set the tone of resiliency when Kindred went on their first quarter rampage. She played extremely hard and was all over the floor. She was relentless in the full-court press, forcing key turnovers in the second half that her team was able to capitalize on. She had a nice middle drive floater and made a key three to start the second half. I was impressed with her effort and ability to compete defensively and secure offensive rebounds.

Emery was Central Cass's best scorer Monday against the Vikings. She made her team's first basket to get the 'lid' off of the rim. She knocked down 2 three pointers in the first half and 2 three pointers right as quarter 3 ended to cut Kindred's lead to 2. She continued to make timely baskets at critical moments to keep her team around and eventually take the lead. The senior showed great poise in leading her team back to a key Region 1 victory.

Liza is a very good player on both sides of the floor. She had a couple of tremendous blocks on Monday night. She has a good hesitation offensively and is able to use her size to create great scoring opportunities for herself. I like how she is able to defend multiple positions and her length really makes it difficult to pass around.

Siera had a very nice game on Monday. She was able to score, defend, and pass the ball well. I was most impressed with her defense and passing. She plays the top of Kindred's press and top of their 1-3-1 half court zone. She does a great job of shading the ball to one side of the floor and using her length and anticipation to get deflections and steals. She has great vision and made many good passes in transition for layups.

I wanted to give Zoe a special shoutout for her role on Kindred's team. She is not asked to score much but does a lot of little things to give her team a chance to win. She plays the middle position of Kindred's 1-3-1 defense, a position that requires a lot of decision making based off of where the ball is on the floor and what her teammates do. She did a great job in the middle and I appreciated how hard she played. Every time a shot went up, Zoe was there boxing a body out, another difficult thing to do when playing zone.

Central Cass and Kindred are two very good teams in a loaded region. Both are well coached and have good players who are ready to line up and make plays each night. I am looking forward to their rematch January 21st.
