Laker MLK Classic: Versatile Wings and Forwards

Twelve teams attended the event as Grosse Pointe South defeated Riverview 56-43, Ypsilanti Arbor Prep defeated Walled Lake Northern 43-41, West Bloomfield defeated Detroit Cass Tech 54-27, Detroit Renaissance defeated Grand Blanc 67-43, Orchard Lake St. Mary's defeated Lake Orion 62-43, and Clarkston defeated Avondale 62-48. She buried three triples from up top and the wing with a confident follow-through. Brooke battled for the advantage inside to secure rebounds and finished off two feet inside. Her presence as a 3-point shooter is what coaches at the college level want in a forward prospect. Her aggressive defense created steals and made life difficult for opposing guards and forwards. She beat defenders off the dribble, snagged offensive rebounds, and scored many layups for Renaissance. Jaebri'an caught a pass and finished the layup through a foul in transition. Imani used a jab to freeze her defender and dribbled by to score with a flashy finger roll off the glass. Imani has excellent footwork in the paint and she used a drop step to score a soft floater off the window. Marley chipped in 7 points against Avondale at the Laker MLK Classic. She drained a smooth wing 3, scored an offensive rebound putback, and added another layup off two feet. Macie drove baseline to score a layup off the glass, knocked down long jumpers from the corner, and dropped in soft floaters. She battled to secure rebounds and made accurate entry passes to teammates. She has good balance and a quick release on her shots. Charlotte drained a corner 3 off the hop and drained a straightaway 3 off the dribble. She went 5 of 5 from the free-throw line and slashed through defenders to score many layups off the dribble, including a double crossover baseline drive floater. She froze her defender with a crossover jab, blew by, and off-loaded a chest pass on the money for an assist. Breasia swiped the ball away and finished the play with a breakaway layup.
