One of those showcases that occurred over the weekend was the She Got Next MLK Showcase hosted by A1 Hoops Report. Last season's did not take place because of weather but this year's at Carolina Academy went off without a hitch.

We at Prep Girls Hoops were on hand at the home court of the 3A Trojans for the day's festivities. With 10 games on the card, there were a litany of primetime performers and here is our top five.

The athletic gene apparently is common throughout the Assemian family (ask South Carolina men's commit Hayden). The exploits of this talented sophomore have played a massive role in Powdersville's rise up the 3A ranks. On Saturday, her Patriots were matched up against one of the state's premier 1A squads in Lee Central. Thanks to the 25 points she tallied, the Patriots earned a 58-51 win over the Stallions. She stands at 6-foot-0. That height comes in handy when looking to convert on high-percentage baskets which Assemian does plenty of. Her length also comes in handy when looking to wreak havoc on defense which she also does plenty of.

It took four games that Saturday before we saw our first 20-point performances. Mosley came through with 22 as Kingstree – ranked second in the most recent 2A coaches' poll – defeated 4A Midland Valley with the final score being 49-32. Mosley understands the art of turning defense into offense and that will enable her to get out in transition to finish strong at the cup. She also is a versatile talent who can thrive in a lineup that either has her at the two in the backcourt or in the three in the frontcourt. The junior Mosley is one of five 2026s on this season's Blazers roster.

Brown's highlight reel simply from this game alone proves exactly why she will be heading to the Midwest to play Division I basketball at Saint Louis beginning next season. J.L. Mann is not an easy team to beat but the 21 points Brown placed on the scoreboard were huge in Legacy Early College's 71-40 victory over the Patriots. One may think four or five when one sees Brown but that automatically changes to one when one sees Brown on the court. Among the many attributes to her overall game is her ability to shoot 3-pointers accurately not to mention the incredible court vision she possesses.

Whenever a team plays Greer, the game plan has to include a way to keep its most effective point-getter in check. That was a chore – and then some – for 3A Christ Church's defense. Moody's 4A Greer team completed a 50-29 rout of the Cavaliers and Moody spearheaded the Yellow Jackets' swarming attack with 21 points. It was in the second half of play where Moody did the lion's (or should we say Jackets) share of her damage to truly put the game away. She knows how to turn defense into offense and efficiently utilizes her speed, vision and veteran instincts to make plays on both ends of the floor. Oh – she is still unsigned.

Travel is often talked about as a factor that can sap a team's performance. But when that team is as stout as Asheville School is, the motto might as well be “Have Basketball…Will Travel.” Hernandez led her Blues to a 60-49 victory over one of the premier teams in the Palmetto State in 4A Daniel. She tallied 19 points. Asheville School as a team was true on five of its attempts from 3-point range. Two of those were by way of Hernandez. She also knows how to turn defense into offense to create additional possessions for her team. Hernandez also excels in the transition game. Her recently completed AAU career included a stint with Team Unlimited. Newberry, Montreat College, Greensboro College and Mars Hill have all extended offers in her direction.
