On Tuesday, I journeyed to Church of the Nazarene for a matchup between Livingston Christian (7-5, D4) and Brighton Charyl Stockwell (5-4, D3). There's always a bit of excitement when I have the opportunity to watch two unfamiliar teams compete. This was my first time covering a high school game at the Naz, but I played church league basketball there about a decade ago as a senior in high school. The gym's proximity provided a family-like atmosphere and watching the game from the upper level gave me a unique vantage point.

The game was close throughout, but Livingston Christian turned up the heat on defense, forcing turnovers to secure a 42-38 victory. Here are two impact players from each team who particularly stood out during my time watching the game.

Audrey has surpassed 1,000 points in her career and set a single-game school record with 41 points against Bloomfield Christian last season. None of that surprises me after watching her play tonight. She drove to the basket in top gear for several layups and buried two triples. Audrey swiped nine steals with her relentless ball pressure, resulting in many transition points. Audrey created space with a spin dribble to sink a wing jumper and dished assists to teammates when the defense closed in. She led the Falcons with 18 points and we congratulate Audrey for committing to Cornerstone University's soccer program!

Amelia ignited the Falcons with her pesky defense, determined effort, and perimeter shooting. Amelia buried two wing 3s off the catch in the first quarter and hit both shots from the charity stripe. She made accurate entry passes to teammates, hustled to secure rebounds, and created many steals with her quickness on defense. Amelia was vocal throughout the game, drilled a straightaway 3 in the second half, and added two more free throws. Amelia poured in 13 points for the Falcons and gave the team an advantage on both ends during their victory.

Lucy did everything in her power to keep CSPA within striking distance against Livingston Christian. Her leadership and gritty performance made a huge impression on me throughout the game. One of her wow moments happened when she contested a layup without fouling to force a miss on one side of the paint, then rotated over to block the next shot on the other side of the paint. By my count, Lucy had 7 blocks and 14 rebounds: she never stops working on the court. Lucy deflected entry passes, ripped the ball out of an opponent's hands to score off two feet, sealed defenders to score at the rim, and powered through contact after securing an offensive rebound for the and-one finish. Lucy led the Sentinels with 14 points.

Lauren is a point guard who made key plays throughout the game for CSPA against Livingston Christian. She worked hard to pressure ball handlers, picking the opposing point guard up at half-court. Lauren buried a confident straightaway 3, dropped in a soft floater off the dribble, and used a crossover to create space for her pull-up jumper from the free throw line. Lauren pursued rebounds, dished the ball to open teammates, and contributed 7 points for the Sentinels.
