Ray Kimball and I joined forces to offer the first-ever Headliners Invitational Showcase back in November of 2023. After taking a sabbatical in 2024, our conviction became undeniably strong that the Headliners needed to return and become a staple showcase in the community. The inspiration for the Headliners Invitational Showcase came after observing elite camps and prospect camps across the state. There were pieces of traditional showcase formats (games/scrimmaging), college elite camps, and prospect camps that I liked, but something was missing from the equation. The ideal format became apparent as I reflected upon my goal for joining Prep Girls Hoops in the first place: to identify and help girls basketball prospects be recruited by college coaches.

An event where girls would have the opportunity to: 1) Work with college coaches who want to recruit them, 2) Be evaluated by college coaches who fit their level of ability, and 3) Receive comprehensive media coverage by Prep Girls Hoops scouts, was clearly needed for prospects in the community. Every prospect is unique, and the traditional showcase format may not be the best fit for everyone. Those girls need opportunities to demonstrate their skills through small-sided games and drills in front of college coaches--not just games. That's exactly why drills emphasizing different skill areas, 3v3, and 5v5 games were all included at the Headliners Invitational. The format was chosen to set prospects up for success in front of the college coaches. Every prospect had a reversible jersey with a number that corresponded to the information in the college coaches' event packets. Every college program in the state received an invitation to this event. Nearly 20 colleges pre-registered to recruit at the showcase, and the event included time for prospects to speak with college coaches after their sessions. Every girl had their picture taken by a PGH scout and will be included in a post-event write-up that highlights their strengths.

Additionally, there were no middle school showcases offered in the state at the time, so it became clear that we had a great opportunity to provide an exceptional first experience for middle schoolers. Since college coaches are recruiting/evaluating high schoolers and our PGH coverage prioritizes high school prospects during their AAU and high school seasons, having a middle school session became very important. Middle schoolers not only worked with college coaches, but also had the opportunity to train with former Evergreen State women's basketball collegiate player Angela Sikora (Adrian College Assistant Coach). Every middle schooler is on the Prep Girls Hoops radar ahead of their high school career and will be promoted on our platform. By experiencing a showcase ahead of their freshman year, these middle schoolers will be better prepared for high-stakes environments in front of college coaches in the future.

My coverage focused primarily on the Team Wings and Team Lynx at the showcase. Here are evaluations for middle schoolers representing the Lynx during session two at the [program_tooltip program_id='923712' first='Prepare' last='2 Win Basketball'] Headliners Invitational!

Brielle crashed the glass on both ends of the court and looked ahead to create transition scoring opportunities for Team Lynx. She sprinted up the court to give her teammates an open target and converted a nice layup on the move. Brielle caught a pass with good hands in the paint and finished with soft touch off the glass. She made the effort plays and put her potential on display at the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase.

Braylee was one of the most fundamentally sound and skilled forwards in the gym during the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase MS session. Her soft hands in the post, finishing off two feet, step-through pivots, strong dribbles, and control with both hands stood out in drills. Braylee listened and applied feedback from coaches during instructino. She continued to make a good impression during the games for Team Lynx. Braylee worked hard to secure an offensive rebound and scored a layup in traffic using a high pick-up move. She swiped the ball away for a steal, pushed the ball in transition using both hands, and threw a long pass up the court to an open teammate. Braylee made smart backdoor cuts and dished out a great kickout pass to the perimeter for an assist. She protected a rebound on the defensive end with a strong rip and changed directions in the lane to cause a foul.

Audree showed confidence and excellent touch on her left handed finishes off the dribble during finishing drills. She switched hands comfortably in the ball-handling segment and shot the ball well from beyond the arc during the shooting segment. Aubree had good balance on the catch, swishing triples from the corner and up top. In games for Team Lynx, Aubree was an effective facilitator, creating space to pass and pushing the pace in transition effectively using both hands. She played hard on both ends of the court, shared the ball, and raced up the court to catch an outlet pass, then dropped in a soft floater. Aubree had a solid day at the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase.

Brooklyn had great chemistry with her guards during games for Team Lynx. She worked hard to secure rebounds on both ends, scored multiple putbacks with a soft touch around the basket, threw strong outlet passes, and provided a spark with her communication, encouragement, and positive energy. Brooklyn screened for ball-handlers on the perimeter to create driving lanes and made a strong effort to clean up on the defensive glass. She sealed off defenders in the paint, caught entry passes with good hands, used effective pivots, and scored many contested layups. Brooklyn switched hands on a drive to score with her left and buried a smooth mid-range jumper.
Ellie turned in a First Team performance at the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase in October, and she was one of the top prospects in the gym again in her second appearance. Ellie used sound technique to sell the shot fake in drills and finished with a balanced step-through on her layups. She was on fire during the three-point shooting station. Ellie shot the ball confidently with her feet balanced on the catch and shredded nylon from the corner and up top. She continued to excel during games for Team Lynx. Ellie penetrated gaps with her dribble, leading to fouls and wide-open looks for teammates. She had a multidimensional impact as a facilitator, slasher, and perimeter scorer. Ellie took a steal the other way with pace for a breakaway layup and buried multiple threes from the wing with confidence off the hop. She worked hard to secure rebounds on both ends and dribbled with tempo, switching hands to create transition points. Ellie threaded a pass up the court through a key-sized window that showed exactly how confident she is as a facilitator. Her long skips in transition, kickouts, and dump-offs after dribble penetration resulted in many assists. She had an impressive all-around performance at the showcase and will be an instant program changer on day one of her high school career.

She snatched a steal from the help side and delivered an accurate bounce pass in stride to a teammate for an assist in transition.
Uriyah separated herself as one of the best players at [program_tooltip program_id='944011' first='Team' last='Synergy'] practice a year ago, and I was very excited to see her registered for the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase. Uriyah has added muscle to her frame, and she was one of the top prospects in the gym. Uriyah demonstrated good balance, footwork, and finishing touch with both hands in drills. She knocked down threes during the shooting station and continued to impress during games for Team Lynx. Uriyah blew by her defender off the dribble with a burst, switched hands in the lane, and scored through contact for the and-one layup. She drained a triple up top and delivered the shot of the day, swishing a half-court three-pointer at the buzzer to close out the game. Uriyah went by a defender using a quick crossover to score a floater, slashed to the hoop for a layup, then glided to the basket with patience and balance to score with her left. Uriyah used a pocket dribble, blew by her defender with a downhill burst, and switched hands for a smooth inside hand finish. She ran that sequence back on the following possession. Uriyah sprinted ahead to score runout layups, made good entry passes into the post, blocked a perimeter shot, and knocked down a triple in the slot. She's a shifty, athletic, dynamic, and talented point guard playmaker who will be a program changer her first year of high school.
