Weekly Top Performers for Jan. 27-31

In this article:
Two weeks ago was the second time this season where inclement weather was arguably the bigger story than anything that may have happened on the court throughout South Carolina.
While games had to be shuffled around, there were still plenty of premier performances that took place to lift their respective teams to victory. With the push to the postseason now in full swing, anyone from Walhalla to North Myrtle Beach and Westminster Catawba to Hilton Head Christian is sure to have their balling shoes on.
Our first list as January concludes and segues into the always active month that is February. Here is said first list from this past week of games.
Southside Christian was in revenge mode following on Tuesday evening at St. Joseph's Catholic following a 67-20 drubbing the Knights dealt the Sabres in the first half of a home-and-home. Becks led a furious Southside Christian comeback that resulted in her Sabres getting the better end of a 46-42 decision. She led all Sabres point-getters with 16. One can count on productive minutes from Becks either at the one or the two. She fuses together talent with veteran instincts, understands the art of attacking the rim and has no problems drawing contact to get to the free throw line. Becks is a two-sport athlete who also excels on the soccer pitch.

When we eventually look back at breakout seasons among youngsters, Glenn has to be in that conversation. She displayed why on Tuesday when Southside Christian came from behind to earn a region victory over Southside Christian. Glenn tallied 15 points in the victory. The Sabres connected on four 3-pointers overall for the game. Two of those were courtesy of Glenn. She also managed to be very effective with her floater and was more than willing to draw contact to get to the free throw line. Glenn has played her club basketball with the Upward Stars 3SSB organization and it is safe to say she is just getting started.

St. Joseph's Catholic may have lost in a heartbreaker to Region 2-AAA foe Southside Christian, but Adams did what she could – and then some – to get her Knights in the win column. The 5-foot-10 freshman led all scorers with 17 points. Much of her production came from behind the 3-point line. Adams connected on four of the six triples that the team had on Tuesday. Adams may be young, but she has emerged as a leader for this St. Joseph's Catholic team. She gives a team worthwhile minutes from either of the guard spots in the backcourt. Adams has more experience than the typical 2028 as she has played at the varsity level with the Knights since she was a seventh grader.

One had to believe that part of the Ridge Spring-Monetta game plan for its Region 3-A matchup with North was to contain Parks. She ensured the homestanding Trojans would have to go back to the drawing board. Parks would finish with 19 points as the Eagles earned the 47-28 victory to dispatch Ridge Spring-Monetta. Parks will find plenty of lanes to the basket and has no issues drawing contact to get to the free throw line. She also can wreak plenty of havoc as a defender and is also gifted in the transition game. Defensively, Parks will have plenty of occasions where she ensures there is virtually no space between her and an opposing defender and she plays the point efficiently.

Even though the result for Ridge Spring-Monetta on Thursday evening was not what the Trojans looked for, Leaphart still displayed plenty of toughness as she placed 11 points on the board to lead all leading point-getters for the Trojans. Her Ridge Spring-Monetta assembling was on the receiving end of a 47-28 decision to North. She approaches every game she participates in as if it is for higher stakes. Leaphart is another who excels in the transition game. Out of the 11 points she scored, seven of those occurred in the first 16 minutes. Leaphart represents Ridge Spring-Monetta not only on the basketball court, but in volleyball as well.
In a matchup as hotly contested as the one between Lake Marion and Hampton County was, every bucket counts. That includes the 13 points that Moorer scored that lifted the Gators to victory over a tough region rival in the Hurricanes. Lake Marion had plenty of early success draining 3-pointers and much of that was thanks to the play of the Gators' star junior. Moorer is listed at 5-foot-9 on the Lake Marion roster. Her versatility is another strong point of her game as she can give a team productive minutes from a variety of spots on the court. Moorer ensured that as January transitioned to February that the Gators would remain with only one loss (Orangeburg-Wilkinson in mid-December) on its 2024-25 resume.

Green was also in the starting five for Lake Marion against its 2A region rival Hampton County and she provided plenty of worthwhile minutes in the paint for her Gators. Green added 10 points which contributed heavily to what was a hard-fought 52-43 victory. While Green is listed on the Gators roster as playing at either the three or the four, she came through with effective play for Lake Marion as a pure five. Green is listed at 5-foot-7 on the Gators' roster and is one of three from this year's team that is part of Lake Marion's 2025 senior class.
When watching a Hurricanes' contest, one has to know they will see plenty of production from Hampton County's star combo guard. That was the case once again on Friday evening. Even though the Hurricanes suffered its first region loss of the 2024-25 season to fall behind Lake Marion in the standings, Jones still provided 17 points in a stellar effort for Hampton County. Jones is an effective with handling the rock and will display accuracy from long range. The Hurricanes had a pair of made 3-pointers on Friday's game – both of them departed from Jones' hands. Her speed can particularly come into play when getting out in transition and finishing strong at the rim. She is unafraid of contact that will put her at the free throw line and has assumed an overall leadership role for Hampton County as evidenced by assuming team captaincy duties for the Hurricanes.
