Class B Region 1 – State Qualifier Prediction

With District Tournaments starting this week, it is a great time to look at who are my favorites to make the Class B State Tournament.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em><span style="text-decoration: underline">MAPLE RIVER RAIDERS</span></em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Maple River has had a terrific season so far and is currently ranked 10th overall in all of Class B. They are 14-4 overall, 7-2 in Region 1, and 7-0 in District 1. They have some terrific guard play with a dominant post. She is able to knock down key shots in key moments when her team needs it most. She is a steady ball-handler and doesn't get frazzled against pressure defense. She is a true leader on the floor and it is really impressive to think she is only a freshman. She is able to help space the floor offensively by knocking down outside shots. She is also able to get to the free-throw line where she shoots a very nice looking free throw. She is very effective around the rim and is very good at drawing fouls. Her persistence around the rim leads to foul trouble for opposing bigs and gets her to the free throw line where she excels. She is a long 5'10 and runs the floor well. I anticipate that she is going to be a great player going forward and have a nice career for Maple River. She is another steady ball handler and scoring option for the Raiders. She can finish with both hands and is also a three-point threat. I like how hard she plays, hustling all over the court. She isn't afraid to dive on loose balls to secure extra possessions for her team.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em><span style="text-decoration: underline">LAMOURE-LITCHVILLE/MARION</span></em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>LLM is currently 14-3 overall, 9-0 in Region 1 play, and 7-0 in District 2. They are currently ranked 8th overall in the State for Class B. She uses her feet well and keeps opponents in front of her. Her help side defense is great, where she is also able to close the gap and close out to her girl. She is super athletic and is fearless driving to the hoop. She is a great playmaker for her team, getting downhill and making great decisions in the half-court. She also is key to her team's full-court press defense. She plays the top of their full-court zone and forces opposing teams into tough areas on the floor. This leads to steal opportunities for herself and her team. She is great at boxing out her girl which leads to great team rebounding opportunities. She keeps her feet defensively and always seems to clean up the glass. She is a good athlete who is able to run the floor hard, putting pressure on opposing team's transition defense. She is a great player and huge reason for the Loboes' success. She is super tough around the rim, using her strength to achieve excellent positioning. She seems to gobble up offensive rebounds which lead to a lot of easy put backs. She is also great at getting to the rim and drawing fouls to get to the free-throw line. She is only a sophomore and plays with great confidence out on the floor. I like how she isn't afraid to penetrate the defense for shooting and passing opportunities. She can knock down the three and plays very hard on both ends. She is a big, strong athlete who is tough down low. She seals well and is extremely hard to get around. She is relentless around the rim, pursuing rebounds with great vigor. Julia is playing great this season and will have a great career at LLM.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sargent County and Linton/HMB are the other two teams I think that will have the best chance to knock off Maple River and laMoure-Litchville/Marion.
