High School basketball is moving closer to the state tournament, which means the 2025 travel circuit season is right around the corner. While everyone (including myself) has fixated on high school hoops, some of Michigan's top 8th-grade prospects have competed in travel circuit tournaments for months. Word traveled that Select Events was hosting a tournament at Morey Courts in Mount Pleasant on Saturday, which was too perfect an opportunity to pass up. UTS, Michigan Storm Elite, MBA, and [program_tooltip program_id='715753' first='Michigan' last='Mystics'] were all in the house with several of Michigan's future top prospects competing on the court. The Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase will be the premier event for 2029 prospects to demonstrate their best skills in front of our scouts, but I wanted to get a head start learning about the girls before our event in August.

During my time watching the 2029 games on Saturday, these were the point guards who impressed me the most.

Isabelle is a crafty point guard for Mystics Select who demonstrated excellent instincts on offense and defense at the Winter Series. She pick-pocketed an unsuspecting ball-handler and pushed the ball quickly down the floor to score a left-handed layup. Isabelle verbally communicated strategy to her teammates and pursued several rebounds. She drove past defenders with a burst off the dribble to score many layups and finished effectively with both hands around the basket. Isabelle anticipated passes on defense, turning steals into breakaway layups. She scanned the floor to find open teammates and tossed long assists in transition. Isabelle is going to be a shifty playmaker to watch at Cadillac.

Sydney comes from a family line of very successful college prospects and soon it's going to be her time to shine. Sydney was effective at setting up teammates to score and creating her own shot at the Winter Series for Mystics Select. She drilled smooth triples off the hop, crashed the boards for rebounds, and caused many steals on defense. Sydney dished a long assist to a teammate over the defense and scored contested layups off the dribble, including a strong and-one off two feet.

Sophia caught my attention at the Winter Series with her shifty handles, passing proficiency, and versatile scoring abilities. She blew by her defender with a quick crossover move to score a contested layup and used a sick behind-the-back crossover hesitation combination dribble to drive by and earn free throws (hit both). Sophia sized up the defender with a jab step then swished a straightaway triple. She made extra passes to open teammates when the defense collapsed on her dribble penetration and I'm very excited to see her again for Michigan Storm Elite in the future.

Delaney is a shifty point guard prospect for MBA with advanced ball-handling control and variety. She looked very impressive at the Winter Series on Saturday. Delaney was aggressive and battled to secure multiple offensive rebounds. She pushed the ball in top gear to cause fouls and score transition layups. Delaney secured a defensive rebound and pushed the ball full-speed in transition, then beat her defender with a crossover dribble to score the layup. Delaney converted a long jumper from the wing, a crossover floater off the glass, and added a layup off two feet. She made strong skip passes to shift the defense and after stealing the ball away, wrapped her pass around the defender for an assist. Delaney is a dynamic guard who will be an immediate difference-maker for Byron Center.
