Sydney, a sophomore guard for the defending state champion Goodrich squad, looks ready to step into a much larger role after an impressive showing on Sunday at the Northwood Team Camp. As a freshman, she provided valuable minutes off the bench, but her confidence and overall game have clearly taken another step forward. Defensively, she was disruptive, anticipating passes and jumping passing lanes to come away with steals that ignited her team’s transition game. On the offensive end, she attacked the baseline with confidence and finished through traffic using a crafty inside-hand layup. Sydney’s ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor should make her an important piece for Goodrich this season.

Sydney quietly had a very productive and impactful tournament for Mystics 15U P24. Her consistent play helped guide the team to a Diamond Championship at the PGH MI College Tour III. Sydney drove downhill with a burst to earn trips to the foul line and finished well off two feet. She moves well laterally to stop drives and has stealthy anticipation that leads to steals on the defensive end. Sydney raced up the court after a steal to score a breakaway bucket and distributed crisp passes to open teammates for assists. Her instincts as a facilitator and defender are important to the team’s success.

Sydney makes the right plays when the ball is in her hands, and that’s exactly why she’s going to be so valuable for Goodrich this season. The Martians graduated key senior guards from their roster, and they’ll need guards to step up in big moments. I believe Sydney has the talent and poise to do that this season. She has breakaway speed to score in transition, knocks down perimeter shots, penetrates off the dribble, makes smart extra passes that create wide-open looks, and causes turnovers with her active hands/anticipation. Sydney is going to have a very productive freshman year.

Sydney brought great tempo to Team 7 at the PGH Freshman Showcase, quickly turning defensive rebounds into fast-break opportunities with strong outlet passes. She read the floor well in transition and made smart decisions with the ball. Around the rim, she didn’t shy away from contact, finishing through defenders with toughness and control.

Sydney will be a great addition to the Goodrich back court in year one and a major contributor over the next four years. She has shifty handles and quickness off the dribble that makes her very effective in the offense. Sydney beat her defender off the dribble to score a layup and scored another in transition. She created steals with her pesky pressure and active hands. Sydney is a threat from three-point range and an incoming freshman to have on your radar.

Sydney will be a solid addition to a Goodrich Martians team who will be one of the best in D2. She handles the ball confidently with both hands, dishes passes on a rope to open teammates, finishes through contact at the rim, and knocks down perimeter jumpers. Sydney creates steals on the defensive end and I’m excited to see her against high school competition this summer.
