Let's mark this past Saturday as the ultimate Game Day for high school basketball around the state for women's basketball. Not only was it the day that saw the Division II state championships go down, but it was also the day that the public school sector had their schools punch their tickets to the state tournament that will be held in Murfreesboro this week. So many big-time implications were at stake Saturday; people were tuning into their phones to see the outcomes of games. Though I wish all teams were in one big state tournament together, Saturday was still special as so many moments occurred throughout the night.

Here are the scores from the other night:

Cocke Co. 54

David Crockett 48

---

Midway 24

North Greene 39

---

Meigs Co. 39

Gatlinburg-Pittman 61

---

Bearden 59

Morristown East 52

---

Unaka 44

Coalfield 49

---

Alcoa 50

McMinn Central 72

---

Tennessee 48

Northview Academy 53

---

Sevier Co. 52

Oak Ridge 53

---

Clay Co. 49

Copper Basin 57

---

Livingston Academy 56

Heritage 71

---

Pearl-Cohn 26

York Institute 62

---

Lebanon 32

Bradley Central 82

---

Van Buren Co. 56

Clarkrange 51

---

Cleveland 55

Cookeville 57

---

Jackson Co. 45

East Nashville 62

---

Lenoir City 28

White Co. 52

---

Mt. Nights like this are what make the state tournament so fun to watch. We will preview the matchups more later this week. In the meantime, here are a few players who did work Saturday night for their ballclubs.

This young lady has been on a mission, and her consistency and hard work are paying off. She had an impressive stat line of 14 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocks, which helped tally up a win for her team to punch their ticket to the state. The six-foot ball player can stretch the floor but poses a real threat in the mid-range and block areas. She is solid on both ends of the floor, making it difficult for opponents to establish any presence down low. She's physical, communicates, and displays tremendous leadership. She's a tough kid, and I look for her to soak up this moment and opportunity. Not only that, but let this show college coaches that this girl is for real.

The MTSU Blue Raider signee is just on another level. She leads her ball club to her future home, the Glass House in Murfreesboro. On Saturday night, she eclipsed the 2k point mark, reaching a milestone not many get an opportunity to do. She's a 3 level scoring threat who is poised with the rock in her hand. She's solid on both ends of the floor, and her leadership is second to none. Look for her to finish strong, as this club has some unfinished business.

She came back for a reason, and she has made good on her word. The fearless leader of the Lady Dragonettes dropped 29 points in their win over Pearl-Cohn. She was hot early and often from the field, stifling any type of defense PC tried to throw at her. Her club spreaded the floor, and Reese went to work. When they tried to throw an extra defender at her, she was able to hit the open girl for a great look. Reese is a built like that, a stone cold killer, who is at home on any basketball floor. Iowa State got a big-time player in this young lady. One who is a proven winner.

She has matured beyond measures and has elevated her game. This tremendous student-athlete is a hard-working individual who excels on the basketball court. She leads the way, and her leadership turns up a notch every time she steps onto the floor. Defensively, she is a juggernaut, getting hands-on deflections and steals. Offensively, she can score it on all three levels, but finishing at the rim after she left her defender in the dust, she has one of the quickest first steps in the state. Her squad returns to Murfreesboro to capture another gold ball trophy. Look for her to be the leading catalyst in the quest to do so.

In an impressive team win where she saw limited action, Chelby scored 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. She's a tenacious defender who creates havoc on the defensive end. She can score it from all 3 levels, but as the old adage goes, “ O is the show, D is the key.” her defense travels to every gym she goes to. This kid is special, and her game speaks volumes. Look for her to be the catalyst of the Lady Trojans' attack as they head back to state.
