Seiling vs. Canute

As the curtain closes on the legendary "Big House", the Seiling Lady Wildcats try to set the All-Time record for consecutive wins in the presitgious State Tournament venue. This current crop of Wildcats had won 9 consecutive games at the State Fair Arena, and were looking to tie the record set by a previous itteration, the 2016-2021 Seiling Wildcats.

The outcome was definitely in doubt at times, as Canute hung with the defending 3-time champions. Canute lead after one quarter of play, took a two point deficit into the half, and a Sayde Allen 3-pointer gave them their first lead of the second half, early in the fourth quarter. Seiling would retake the lead and inch further away from Canute, winning by a 40-35 score as the final buzzer sounded. The five-point final margin was actually the biggest lead of the game for either team. The Canute squad does not feature any Seniors, and with some talented freshman in Allen and Brooke Thomas, expect to see them at the new State Fair Arena next season.

Talented senior knocked down four from beyond the arc, finishing with a game high 17 points, right at her season average. Hamar is really comfortable down the stretch, such a big thing for a Seiling team that had a few more close games this season. Seiling only typically plays 5 girls this season, but those five have won a lot of games and are definitely battle-tested.

Caddo vs. Allen

Caddo boys and girls coach Kolby Johnson will have a busy day on Friday, as he has a 9am girls Semi-Final matchup, and then a 9pm boys Semi-Final that evening. Caddo girls trailed by a 12-18 score before scoring 14 unanswered in the middle periods. A 10 point lead late in the fourth blossomed to what ended up being a 52-34 win for the Lady Bruins.

Was huge for Allen, finishing with a huge 19 point, 11 rebound double-double. Averaged 12 a game for Allen this year. Shifty athlete is so tough to stop in one-on-one situations. Gets a ton of steals that lead to layups. Has quick hands and is immediately firing it up ahead, great outlets and decision making.

Okarche vs Amber-Pocasset

A big story for Oklahoma small school basketball this past week has been the Okarche girls. As a Class A basketball coach, I will admit that I had dropped them out of my Top 20 rankings during the middle part of the year as they hovered around the .500 mark. However, the Warriors have been on a run since late January. Coach Tahah also gave birth two days before the State Tournament, making their win over Am-Po that much sweeter.

Averaged 15 a night for Okarche this year. Okarche also had to deal with a delay in the Big House due to light issues, but Parham made big plays every time it was needed. Just a sophomore, plays with the poise of a Big House veteran. Had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the statement win over a very good Amber-Pocasset team.

The Cyril and Quinton game was postponed after a 4-5 start, as light issues in the aging arena led to bad playing conditions. They restarted the game from the stopping point the next day at 3pm. You could tell the strange circumstances affected both teams, as the typically high scoring offenses struggled to put the ball in the basket.

Quick shooting, strong off guard. Alexis was good for 6 points and 6 rebounds in the low scoring affair, her last game with her sister Bailey. Had added an intimidating protective face mask since I saw her at the Tournament of Champions. Was tremendous in that, especially in wins over Edmond Memorial and Glenpool. Averaged 12 a game this season, Quinton's starting lineup sans Bailey was four juniors, so expect Alexis and a senior lady squad to be back next year.

An Oklahoma City University softball signee, Gibson was good for 19 a game on the hardwood for the Lady Pirates. Quick live-ball moves make you stay a step off of her, but then she will shoot the 3 from two steps behind the line. I've gotten to see Hadley at the Caddo County Tournament the last several years and have been continuously impressed with her offensive game, such a lethal scorer.

A big part of Cyril's recent success, the game manager point guard came up biggest in the Big House, being the game's leading scorer for the first time of her season. Coach McLemore's girls teams have always been known for their defense and intense play, and Carlson sets the tone for the whole squad.
