My AAU season kicks off this weekend in Romeoville, Illinois. More Wisconsin kids and teams are playing down there this weekend than I can remember in my three years at the event. Since the event isn't a live period, meaning no D1 schools can attend in person. I wanted to highlight a few kids for D2s, D3s, NAIAs, and JUCOs to watch at the event. Today, we'll look at 16U kids to keep tabs on.

The Westosha Central wing had her season cut short due to an injury, but the talent is there. Few kids in Wisconsin can attack the rim at the level Mannetter can, and she's still in her first year of high school. The potential is there, and coaches outside of the live period may not even bother because her ceiling is that high. Mannetter is a talented kid who'll be one of the better players at the entire event. She may still be working her way back from that injury, but she'll make plays few others can if she plays, even if she's not 100%.

The Mount Horeb is a talented kid who elevated her Vikings team last season, even when things didn't go well. In a world where I had advanced numbers with her on-off splits or anything that would tell us how much better Mount Horeb was when Monroe had the ball, it would be jaw-dropping. She moves the ball and generates open looks for her teammates, and when she wants to attack, she usually creates efficient looks at the rim. The Viking is not flashy, but Monroe is productive.

Whitefish Bay's backcourt is an elite unit. Balthasar earned a role this season and found herself in closing lineups. Her ability to drive and create for others fits the speed and tempo the Blue Dukes wanted to play at. She may not have had the role to show everything she could do at the high school level, which is ok. However, Balthasar will have a long enough leash to expand her game this summer with her [program_tooltip program_id='713043' first='Wisconsin' last='Impact'] team, who finished as the runner-up in 15U EYCL last season.

The defensive talent Grady has is noticeable. The Milton guard is a laterally quick kid with the physicality to handle some kids who play with power in the Badger-Large. The Red Hawk was a kid who found ways to create extra possessions on both ends of the floor by rebounding or creating turnovers in different fashions. She's also aggressive enough on the offensive end, where defenses have to guard her. She's more than a perimeter defender, which is why she found herself on the floor as much as she did last season.
