The Sunshine State Tournament showcased an impressive array of sophomore talent in girls basketball. These rising stars demonstrated skill, poise, and leadership beyond their years. From clutch performances to dominant displays on both ends of the court, these standout sophomores made their mark and proved their names to remember moving forward.    Avery, a 6'0 guard, continues to elevate her game and made a strong impression at this tournament. Known for her deadly shooting, she showcased poise and next-level vision, consistently finding cutters and reading screens with precision. Her passing ability stood out as some of the best we've seen. Avery used her length to get to the rim and finish through contact, while also making a defensive impact with several key blocks. Ellie, a versatile 6'0 guard from the Class of 2027, impressed as a leader for her PHS Elite 17U team this tournament. Despite her age, she played beyond her years, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. Ellie stretched the defense with her catch-and-shoot ability and consistently attacked off the bounce against pressure. She stayed active every possession, making key plays in transition and on the boards. Her high motor and feel for the game stood out, especially in critical moments. Ellie continues to prove she belongs on the big stage and is a name to watch moving forward. A true three-level scorer, Presley knocked down shots from deep, showed a smooth and consistent mid-range, and used her physicality to finish effectively at the rim. Defensively, she held her own against positions 1 through 5, showing toughness and versatility. Presley continues to develop and is proving herself as one of the rising talents in her class.     Falisa turned heads this past weekend with a standout performance that highlighted her athleticism and physicality. A tall, dynamic guard, she thrived in transition—pushing the pace and attacking open lanes with confidence. Her strength and body control allowed her to create and finish high-percentage shots around the rim. Defensively, Falisa was a force, racking up steals, blocks, and key rebounds with her relentless energy and activity. Her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor made her one of the most talked-about players of the tournament.     Layla was a standout performer this tournament, making her presence felt on both ends of the floor. A knockdown shooter, she needs little time or space to get her shot off, consistently punishing defenders with her quick release. As a speedy guard with tight handles, she excelled coming off dribble handoffs and ball screens to create space and scoring opportunities. Defensively, Layla brought relentless energy, pressuring the ball full-court and forcing key turnovers. Her ability to impact the game with her shooting, playmaking, and defensive intensity makes her a player to watch moving forward.
