A Short Watch List for MAYB 1A/2A Weekend

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Mid America Youth Basketball (MAYB) continues to offer value laden events in cities and towns in the multi-state region centered around Kansas. This upcoming Friday and Saturday in Wichita MAYB is hosting a favorite event of mine. The 1A/2A, 3A/4A, 5A/6A event draws school teams, including JV squads, from throughout the state. There are also other divisions for 9th/10th and 11th/12th grades. Some club teams and school teams from outside the state usually are sprinkled in also. In 2026 she will be the only returning MCL first team selection. This past season she shot 49% from the floor to average 13.1 points per game. Beckman also averaged 8.5 rebounds, 5.8 steals and 3 assists with a assists-to-turnover ratio of just under 1. Two years running the two-time Northwest Kansas League <em>second</em> team selection has been named to three different all-state teams. This past season, after leading the Wildcats to the 1A Div II state tournament, Benisch was named to the SIK first team and the second team by KBCA and KSHSAA. It marks the third year she earned all-state honors by at least one of the organizations. Through her first three years she has poured in 980 points while averaging 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 2.7 assists. Following the 2025 season she also earned KBCA, KSHSAA and SIK 2A honorable mention selections. Orton may be doing double duty this weekend playing for the Chargers and her SSA club team. Two league teams reached the state tournament in 2025, Osage City in 3A and Chase County in 2A.
