Big North Shootout: Monday Morning Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This is my first time covering the Big North Shootout, and I couldn't be more excited to watch many teams from the Petoskey area for the first time in person. 40+ teams from different pockets of Michigan, including several Northern Michigan-based squads, are competing over the next two days. Lily changed directions to drive using a combination of spin dribbles, behind-the-back snaps, and crossover moves. She moved feet and walked up perfectly to force a travel and pushed the ball with pace in transition with her left hand after grabbing a steal. She blocked a shot in transition and hit the deck to tie up the loose ball. Lily caught a pass in the paint and scored a tough floater over a defender. She scored an offensive rebound put back, drained a straightaway triple off the bounce, and buried a long jumper. One of Nalaya's strengths was her ability to beat her defender off the dribble and dish great dump-off passes once the help arrived, resulting in many wide-open looks for teammates. Nalaya exuded confidence and passion on the floor--high energy. She moved her feet quickly to stop drives and created many steals with her on-ball pressure. She drove with a full head of steam down the lane and finished multiple layups off two feet. Nuray knocked down three-pointers with confidence and took steals the other way for two points. She started the morning off with an impressive first game at the Big North Shootout. Lyla dished great hammer passes down the baseline and kicked the ball out to open shooters. She drained wing three's off the catch and threw a strong lead pass to a teammate in stride for the assist. Lyla pushes the ball with her eyes up and deflected passes with her active hands on defense. She swiped the ball away and raced down the court using speedy pushout dribbles to score a tough layup through contact. Gentry threw a strong overhead skip pass over the defense to the corner, chased down multiple offensive rebounds, and made the hustle plays. Lauren showed her perimeter proficiency by draining multiple three-pointers from up top and the wings--she expects to make every shot. Lauren caused multiple steals, blocked shots, and was a persistent rebounder on both ends. She gave the team a clear advantage in the paint, securing several strong rebounds on both ends of the court.
