Top Players to Watch from Independence High School Summer Ball

Kudos to the Indy staff for creating pivotal matchups. I can't stress that enough. You could tell as soon as you walked into the gym that there were going to be fierce battles amongst the clubs who were participating. Although this is just summer ball, teams stressed winning and competing, which I ultimately like to see. Displayed nice footwork as she received the ball and went to work down low. She has soft hands, can make quick decisions, and when it's time to make the move, she does so with such physicality. She has been working on her handles lately because there were many times when she caught the rock in the high post and drove into her move or incorporated a counter move on her way to the rim. She was big-time on the boards and brought the juice every possession. Playing with renewed energy, this kid is an absolute dawg “no pun intended.” She was aggressive on the offensive end, attacking gaps to finish at the rim. She, too, was dialing it up from deep, knocking down 3s to help her ball club. What stood out the most were two things. For one, she displayed multiple efforts getting rebounds on both ends of the floor. Secondly, her defense was up as she guarded the other team's best player and neutralized them. An aggressive player who was solid on both ends of the floor. She is a 3-level scoring threat that won't hesitate to put it on the floor and go get a bucket. If she is given any space in the open court, she is going to step right into the 3. Defensively, she contributed on the boards, was always in position to help her teammates defend, and was solid defending on the ball as well. She can score over either shoulder, knock down the mid-range jumper, and even stretch the floor out to hit the occasional 3. She plays with intentionality and always seems to be in the right spot at the right time. Her defense stands out as she blocks shots as well as contributes on the boards. Her game has grown over the year as she is playing with such confidence. This kid is coachable and is always looking to get better. You can tell she has been battletested as of late, how she gets after it on every possession. She is truly physical as she possesses her will in the paint. Has great footwork, a nice touch on the ball, and this kid uses her brute strength to go through the opposition on her way to getting a bucket. Defensively, she is solid as she makes it difficult for girls to operate. She plays with a motor, goes after rebounds, and really is the engine that helps this Kirkwood ball club run.
