The reigning Class 5A Freshman of the Year did what helped her earn the award last season – a little bit of everything – in a loss to Lanier. Drucker recorded a team-high 8 points, a team-high 5 rebounds, a team-high 4 assists and 2 steals in the 41-34 defeat. Drucker found success in the paint with her in between game, showing off a short push floater from about 7-feet. In Game 2, a 45-28 win over Denmark, Drucker picked up 5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal while getting to rest the final 11 minutes of the game. Demanding the ball to serve as a stabilizing presence against pressure or when plays start to break down is the next area of growth as she strives toward being a leader on the floor.

Macey does the little things well. Her impact and value are felt on the scoreboard with her three-point shooting but maybe even more important is how well she does defensively and her effort when it comes to blocking out and rebounding, things that don't always show up in the box score. McCutcheon might not be the strongest player on the floor, but she gets the maximum out of her frame as she throws her body around for the betterment of the team. Macey splashed three three-pointers over the course of two games and was a vocal leader in the huddle.

The sparkplug play of Washington was paramount in a win over Denmark as she used her speed and aggressiveness to rack up a team-best 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal after tallying 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals in a loss to Lanier. Ka'Mya is at her best when she is able to play under control and read what the defense is giving her. She has a quick first step to get downhill and is a threat to either finish at the rim or drop off sharp assists to her posts on the opposite block. Washington flashes some “wow” moments throughout games on both ends of the floor.

There were a ton of positives up and down the roster for Jackson County in Week 1, especially with their young talent. Karlei Hewatt came up huge in Game 2 against Denmark, dominating with her physicality and effort in the paint leading to 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals after supplying 4 points and 2 rebounds against Lanier. Karlei has great potential with her energy and willingness to battle down low. She does an excellent job sealing inside and on Saturday, showed composure and patience when finishing. She displayed nice touch when fouled, cashing in on 3-4 of her free throw attempts. Karlei has a bright future in basketball.

Once Michelle arrived after missing the first portion of the first half, everything changed in favor of Lanier. Ezumah is an elite rim protector and rebounder with a non-stop motor. She beat the opposition down the floor to clean up misses on transition layups for putbacks. Michelle maneuvered for buckets with her back to the basket just below the free throw line, showing deft footwork and a soft touch in traffic. Michelle mustered 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks in a 41-34 win over Jackson County. Listed at 5-foot-11, Ezumah is as impactful as any post in the state of Georgia.

Evelina should make a positive impact this year for Denmark. With multiple key pieces missing in Week 1, Harmon stepped up and showcased her shot-making ability as she sprayed four three-pointer en route to a game-high 14 points and 4 rebounds against Jackson County. Harmon knocked down shots when her feet were set and helped handle the ball against pressure.
