Last weekend, in Appleton, we had our third PGH Freshman Showcase. I enjoy seeing the new faces of high school basketball before the season, and plenty of players at the event will make their mark on the high school season this winter. Today, we're discussing all the players from Team One of the 5v5 portion of the event and highlighting what they brought to the floor. We'll keep this up until we wrap up all ten 5v5 teams that played at the Freshman Showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='1311691' first='Sammy' last='Beeram']

The thing that impressed me the most about Beeram is how well she made plays with the ball in her hands. She is a confident player who is willing to attack the basket, regardless of who is trying to contain her on the perimeter. She's also a player who has shown she can knock down shots when defenders give her space to take shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1241412' first='Gemma' last='Gardow']

The Western Wisconsin native is an athletic player. Gardow is also a physical guard who can keep opposing guards in front of her and not cede ground when players want to go through her. I loved how well she defended, and she also showed the confidence to take and make perimeter jumpers when she had some space to shoot.

[player_tooltip player_id='1231959' first='Aniya' last='Jones']

Jones was someone I talked about yesterday. She was among the most impressive players at the event, and her skill set will translate to the high school level. She has the speed, skill, physicality, and footwork to make plays from anywhere on the floor. She's a player who people may not know heading into the high school season, but they'll know by the end of December.

[player_tooltip player_id='1231644' first='Peyton' last='Cooper']

There were plenty of talented guards on Team One, and Cooper didn't have the ball in her hands much. However, she did things that impressed me while not being a ball-dominant player. Cooper rebounded the ball well, especially on the offensive end. She also did a solid job of moving the ball and taking care of the ball when it was in her hands. She's willing to play a role to help her team win games, which could translate to the high school level.

[player_tooltip player_id='874550' first='Veronica' last='Hoell']

Hoell was a versatile player who made some things happen all over the floor. For one, she's a solid positional defender and has the strength to hold her ground around the basket. She did an excellent job of making plays on the ball to create extra possessions for her team. Hoell also proved that she could handle the ball and make things happen with the ball in her hands. I was impressed by what she was able to do on both ends of the floor. She has a calmness about her. She doesn't get sped up and always finds ways to impact the game.
