We are getting closer and closer to kicking off the new basketball season around the state. Last week, the 2027 rankings were released in a new format showcasing the top 75 girls in the state. These young ladies are just a few from our state who will be competing at the next level. Until then, they have some unfinished business to attend to before heading off to school.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In this article, I would like to showcase some top talent in the Memphis area. [program_tooltip program_id='712426' first='Bluff' last='City'], as you all know, is known for its basketball. Hailing near the muddy Mississippi River, these young ladies show up and show out. In the area, schools such as Bartlett, Collierville, Arlington, and Memphis Business Academy (just to name a few) have these young ladies donning their jerseys as they compete. It will be interesting to see what squads come out of the west when it's state tournament time. The Gatorade Player of the Year from Mississippi will be looked upon to lead the CHS club as they have a state title in mind. This 3 level scoring threat has tight handles and can scorch the bottom of the net at a moment's notice. She is a tough defender, someone who will be giving others fits as she disrupts the flow of an opponent's offense. She has a lot riding on her this year. Not only will she be competing for a championship, but colleges will be looking for her commitment, as she is an exceptional talent who will be a solid foundational piece for a program. After having a super summer, she committed to Mercer earlier this school year. Jala is a kid who can exploit the mid-range, finish around the rim, and contribute on both ends of the boards. She brings a workman-like mentality into the fold, which is something Mercer loved about her game. She will be looked upon to lead Whitehaven as they carve out their position against a talented region. Look for Jala to be in the mix for being one of the top kids in her district. Blessed with size and speed, this young lady moves well as she attacks the basket or dials it up from various spots. She will be a kid who can stretch the floor, but also do work within.
