Good Counsel Super Scrimmage (Part 2)

The Good Counsel Super Scrimmage has turned into a yearly DMV tradition as teams line up to take part in the festivities. The round robin format gives coaches the opportunity to play against multiple teams in a day for a half. It also gives us a first look at some of the teams, where they stand in the power rankings, transfers added, freshmen first look and an overall vibe on what the season will bring. With so many teams, games and players, I'm breaking down who caught my eye into three parts.    Jezelle has a gear that she hits without warning. The way she changed directions and exploded off of her dribble made it difficult for defenders to stay in front of her. She was able to get by double teams and traps with little effort. When she got in the lane she was able to elevate and get her shot off for the finish. She was one of the top players on the court in each of her games and had the most fluid game in the building.     Lyla consistantly knocked down the three pointer and shot the mid-range shot well also. She had a nice soft touch around the basket and used the glass well. She has good size and is effective with her back to the basket. She moves well without the ball and finds gaps int he defense to get open looks. Her versatility makes her a matchup nightmare and a college ready senior.     Jordyn showed a complete game on both ends of the floor. Defensively she was on lock down, causing most ball handlers to give the ball up after two dribbles. She is a master in transition as she is able to handle the ball well and execute moves running full speed. When left open she let the three ball fly with good results. Rebounding was a strenght as she didn't shy away from mixing things up inside and going after the boards.     Qandace shoots the three effortlessly making it look more like a free throw than a three pointer. She probably can extend that shot easily to half court if given the green light. Her length was giving defenses problems as she attacked with speed then just rose over smaller players some being post players. She has good timing jumping the lane on defense getting a steal and racing down the floor for a layup. She affects the game in a variety of ways and as soon as you think you have her figured out she drops another three in your face.     Nyair has the ball on a string. She is very deceptive and can move the defense with suttle head and eye movements. She was always a threat to find open cutters and it was useless to try and trap her as she beat the trap everytime. When she got to in the paint she was able to find some angle to get off her shot against the taller defenders often frustrating them into fouling her. She is the top point guard in her class and can affect the games outcome without scoring a point.
