This weekend, Portland Community College hosted an affordable clinic for ages 11-17 year olds. The inspiration behind this clinic was to provide a day of community and skill development training sessions. The first session was grouped for middle school ages and the second session was for high school. There were about 40 kids who came out and participated, and everyone worked hard and had a lot of fun. The gym was full of talent and rising stars. Now, let's recap some of the athletes that came out to play.

[player_tooltip player_id='1320532' first='Iselie' last='Spicer'] is a rising sophomore and talented guard out of Ida B Wells. She's a court leader and is great at directing her teammates where to be on the floor during competition.

She is a sharp shooter and isn't afraid to attack the hoop. She's very quick and has fast hands that can pick-pocket her opponents on defense. She isn't afraid to dive for a loose ball or get after a rebound.

During the skills clinic at PCC this weekend, Iselie was out there working hard amongst some of the top competitors in the state. She stood out for her hustle efforts up and down the court and strong work ethic.

[player_tooltip player_id='1005370' first='Adia' last='Fancher'] is a talented sophomore guard out of San Barlow High School. She has a high IQ level of play while out on the court. She out-hustles her opponents in any gym I've witnessed her compete in. She can shoot the ball extremely well. She isn't afraid to drive to the rim and attack her opponents.
On defense, she is aggressive and has a great wingspan to block and defend shots. This weekend, Adia stood out to me as one of the hardest-working athletes in the gym. She was also very kind to her peers and great about giving them positive encouragement and motivational support. Some other scouts were in the gym, and they were asking who stood out as a sharp shooter? Or who was willing to go the extra mile to get the job done? Without hesitation, Adia was one of my top recommendations in the mix of hoopers. Job well don,e Adia, keep working hard and good luck this season at Barlow.

[player_tooltip player_id='1143337' first='Kelyn' last='Johnson'] is a talented Senior out of Benson High School. Kelyn is a knockdown shooter and fierce competitor. She is underrated and under-recruited by the amount of talent she packs into a gym. She has an extremely hard-working work ethic, and she will go the distance for her teammates and coaches.

This weekend, Kelyn was getting after it during the clinic. Hitting key shots during competition and going after loose balls, and keeping pressure on her opponents on defense. Kelyn is a team player, too, and a leader on the court. She isn't afraid to be patient and make the extra pass. But don't give her an inch, or she will light you up from the outside! Keep up the great work, Kelyn, this is your yea,r and I know you're going places!

Penelope Duncan is a rising sophomore out of Washougal High School. She is a strong combo guard and a quick player up and down the court. She lives by the motto that, “hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.” Penelope is definitely one of the hardest-working athletes in the gym no matter where she competes.
This weekend, Penelope was getting after it and being aggressive on the court. She has gotten stronger since last season, and after transferring to her new team, she will bring talent and determination to Washougal. Keep it up, Penelope, it will be exciting to watch you play this season.
