The Maize South Lady Mavericks were dominant in their win last night (12/12/25) against the Maize Lady Eagles with a 57 to 19 victory @ Maize. The Lady Mavericks played at a blistering pace on the offensive end with good ball movement and some solid cutting and diving to the basket for easy buckets. Where they made their mark, though, was the defensive end. The Lady Mavericks caused an uncountable number of turnovers against the Lady Eagles, mostly with active hands in the passing lanes, diving for those 50/50 balls, and securing rebounds. Although the Lady Mavericks made it easy for themselves, they played hard on defence throughout the game, which will bode well for them against the rest of their schedule this season. The Lady Eagles also gave good effort last night, but the size and speed of the Mavericks were too much on this night to overcome. Here are the notable players from Friday night's matchup.

MVP of the night against Maize (12/12/25). Jaela is a strong defender who helps guard all 5 positions on the court. She has good reflexes and a quick instinct in the passing lanes to create turnovers and lead fast breaks for easy buckets. She is athletic enough to cover an entire split-half of the court, and she is clearly aware of it, because she will give her opponents space at times just to let them make a mistake and try to pass to a nearby teammate, only to get it intercepted for a pick +2. Offensively, she seems to prefer getting to the cup for easy buckets, but does have range, and she will pull the trigger from anywhere if you leave her open.

Most impressive player of the night against Maize last night(12/12/25). A freshman who moves well with and without the ball. Plays point guard the right way by directing traffic, communicating well, and setting the pace for her team. She knew when to speed the game up and when to slow it down. She knew when to cut and when to pop out for a trey. She shoots well, plays hard on every possession and plays with high IQ.

It's probably not a good idea to play zone when she's on the court. Charley is a sniper who does a good job of getting her feet set before the shot to line it up. She doesn't seem to get rushed often and plays well within the team while finding her open spots to launch. She's a player you would need to play man against, or at least not double off of, because she will find the open areas on the court to get her shot off.

Kaylee is a very mobile Big who excels in the passing lanes on defence and always keeps her hands active on that end of the floor. She plays hard and is a key player for the Maize South Defensive attack. She is solid on the boards and contests at the rim enough to allow her teammates to gamble at times and create turnovers against their opponents. She runs the floor well, also, so her switchability in regard to her position allows for quick recoveries, fast outlets, and a rigorous pace that will make it hard to compete against the Lady Mavericks.

Malaysia shows promise as a spot-up shooter and scorer who plays within the flow of the game for her squad. She plays point and plays very unselfishly, but it seems to make her a little less aggressive at times for the Maize Lady Eagles. As she and her team progress, I think she will continue to be the primary shot taker on this squad and put up numbers. A little less hesitation and more aggression in getting to her spots, and you will see the Eagles rise again in Maize.
