USE CODE "tinnon30" FOR 30% OFF THE FIRST PURCHASE OF ANY SUBSCRIPTION.

In my last article, you may recall me talking about some water-cooler talk I had with a coach about postseason awards. Don't get me wrong, the young ladies' names listed were just a few worthy nominees that people tend to talk about. There are more student-athletes who also deserve to be mentioned for their contributions to their teams.

I have no horse in this race, nor do I have a vote in this. What I will say is that when it comes to voting, make sure everyone (voters) considers the impact one has on a team beyond a box score. You have to keep an eye on the actual game, not just the published end result. Here are a few “dark horses” I would say are up for the postseason award from the Middle Tennessee area.

Talented. She was killing it at Coffee Co. as a freshman, and now she is killing it at the DII level. Her presence has uplifted the Lady Cougars program. Her ability to attack the basket as well as knock down shots from the arc has elevated this ball club, looking to go deep into state contention. She is shooting over 40% from the arc, one of the top percentages in the state. Don't sleep on her defense; she is averaging close to 4 steals per game. Quick hands, quick feet, this young lady is truly a difference maker on both ends of the floor.

She may be one of the least talked about prospects outside the Queen City. This talented forward is averaging a double-double in each contest. She can put the ball in the hole from both near and far. What's impressive is her ability to gain rebounds, eliminate second-chance opportunities, and start transition breaks. Tough kid who uses her size to her advantage.

The Blackman program has always produced D1 guards, and she is going to be the next one from this prestigious program to reach that level. She has her squad clicking on all cylinders. Her size poses a threat on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she is going to beat you in a multitude of ways, from taking you off the bounce to knocking down the 3. Defensively, her length will lead to deflections and steals, creating easy buckets heading the other way.

Her size alone puts her in another category in itself. I'll say this, she has impressive footwork around the low block areas. She has counter moves, can handle the rock, inside the arc; she is tough to handle because she finds ways to score the basketball. Even when the gameplan is to stop her, she plays with poise, hunts great shots, and is patient as she gets to the spots she wants to go to. She's big-time on the boards, and when it's all said and done, as the final horn sounds, she's eclipsed the double-double mark. The Missouri commit has instilled faith back into the Lady Admirals program.

Big-time player who is no stranger to the bottom of the net. This kid plays with relentless effort and contributes not only in the scoring column but also in other statistical categories. She can bully you down low, stretch the floor, grab boards, make timely assists, and block shots. She is effective on both ends, a huge focal point for the WC program. Her presence on the floor discomforts opponents. She finds ways to exploit teams every time she suits up. Tough kid who gets buckets.
