The week that [player_tooltip player_id='502100' first='Macy' last='Comito'] just put together in front of the State was legendary. When we look back at the 24'-25' 4A race, #8 Xavier ran the bracket behind the spectacular play of Libby Fandel. This season Comito did much of the same expect her team only lost once overall and they weren't as low as an 8 seed coming into the week of State. We are going to look back at this Winter in the near future and remember the 4A Class because of Comito's excellence. That's just the reality. She made so many plays at a high level that it makes sense that she was voted for 4A All Tournament Team Captain. She had the best week as an individual overall out of all Classes and grade levels throughout Iowa so it's nice to see her rewarded for that.

Carlisle was the star studded group this past week in a lot of regards. They started the week as being a program that everyone wrote off and by the end, they were unstoppable and destroying everyone in their way by large margins, in games that were never really close. Someone that stepped up big time for this team was 2026 - [player_tooltip player_id='1795454' first='Mallie' last='Stoner']. Stones is another one that was a mismatch nightmare. Teams just didn't know what to do with her. In the first contest against CCA, they under played her and she made them play in little ways here and there. To follow, she was nails against another else that was put in her way because she made the open shots, she converted hard baskets when team's contested well, and she didn't take plays off on defense either. Carlisle will forever remember this group of ladies. They left it all on the floor this season and now they get to reap the benefits because of it as State Champions.

Whenever you watch [player_tooltip player_id='832198' first='Macy' last='Meyer'] play you notice that she does the simple things really well and that's why it takes to compete at a D1 level. Meyer did a great job of making open shots last week around the outside, she attacked the middle of the floor when things opened up in transition, she was a willing passer off of the bounce when her teammates became more open, she rebounded at a constant rate, and she communicated well with all of those around her as things unfolded throughout a contest. I imagine that Meyer is going to play that 2/1 split once she gets to UNI but she still has a year to go so we will see. As for the season at hand Meyer locked in a spot on this All Tournament because she showed up each contest they played in all the way through the Championship. Hopefully she can play off of that momentum this AAU season on the road!

The state of Iowa should do everything in their power to keep [player_tooltip player_id='883552' first='Braylyn' last='Birmingham'] around for her collegiate career. She is a proven D1 prospect with length, skill, and a high ceiling as it pertains to her future. This is someone that is very good at everything across the board when it comes to her skillsets. She might be young but she has every trick in her bag that she can pull out in the blink of an eye while adapting to any situation. Birmingham got onto the floor and went right to work last week. She led her team to some extremely exciting contests, always being the offensive and defensive threat for her Norwalk group. She impressed every coach in attendance and I'm sure that is going to lead to some offers this Spring on the road with her EYBL program.

[player_tooltip player_id='777232' first='Melina' last='Snoozy'] had a lot of eyes in attendance in DSM as she had another impressive week on work on the Varsity floor. Bishop Heelan might not of won it all in the 4A Class while running into the buzz saw that was [player_tooltip player_id='502100' first='Macy' last='Comito'] but that doesn't mean that Snoozy didn't show her worth. In each game offensively she lite up the nets, making shot after shot after from distance. Her quick trigger from deep off of the catch or bounce is impressive and it was on full display in both of her showings. She also demonstrated that she is a sound defender, that can switch between positions with her combination of reach and athleticism. To my understanding, Snoozy is close to making her college commitment but after coming off of a strong high school campaign and having another AAU season coming up quick, who knows! We will just have to wait and see what happens.

One of the most exciting sequences of Iowa Girls High School Basketball history took place during this year's State event and the catalyst behind that play was [player_tooltip player_id='891985' first='Ava' last='Smid']. Down 4 with around one minute-ish left on the clock in the Semifinals and Smid got a layup to go off the drive on the left side of the bucket to bring the lead down to 2. Following, she immediately turned around to guard the closest opposing player within their full court press. The opposing team threw in the ball, Smid stole it under the hoop, and finished it for a quick bucket to tie the game. After that occurred, Smid did the same exact thing one more time right away, ending the play with an AND1 opportunity to take the lead. Smid ended up scoring 7 points in 12 total seconds in that sequence, which ultimately led them to the 4A Finals. The play was amazing but it shouldn't overshadow the fact that Smid had a great week as a whole. She played that CG/SF spot all week long and she thrived within her matchups on both sides of the ball. This is another prospect that will be playing D1 ball when she gets to the collegiate level. She is very talented and a natural in several aspects so it plays that she did well enough to make the 4A All Tournament Team.
