Mount Vernon and [player_tooltip player_id='957840' first='Savanna' last='Wright'] were good all season long, which led them to an appearance at the 3A State Tournament in DSM this last week. Wright, the future D1 PG, strung together a productive week has a whole. She played her PG really well as a creator, scorer, and defender, ultimately leading to a lot of success on the hardwood. Mount Vernon might of fallen short of their goal of winning another 3A State Title but they will be back and Wright will be their unquestionable leader moving into the near future with the Mustangs. She is a game changer on and off of the ball and that's going to be on full display in her contests to come.

[player_tooltip player_id='782510' first='Maelyn' last='Kluever'] was one of the best prospects that we saw all week long in DSM, no matter Class level or age. Kluever stepped up to be a vital piece to helping her team bring home a 3A State Title. She was their guard that everyone can rely in and she made some big plays down the stretch in the form of steals, finishing in transition, an hitting open shots whenever the opportunities would present themselves. The three headed monster of Maquoketa was fun to watch the past few months but now it's going to be even more intriguing to see how this program follows that up this upcoming Winter. They are going to have a target on their back as defending Champs so hopefully they can figure it out early on and then they can continue to do their thing.

[player_tooltip player_id='996522' first='Taylor' last='Franck'] proved this Winter that she is a next level prospect, who could compete for several collegiate programs out there given the correct circumstances. Franck, the 5'4 PG, had a great high school run and she finished that off by putting together a solid run within these Playoffs. Mount Vernon is a program that has had impressive guard play for years now. That's why they won a 3A State Title just last Winter while going undefeated so to stand out as one of the best guards on their Mustang system is noteworthy.

[player_tooltip player_id='920715' first='Emily' last='Tanny'] put herself in the Top Five conversation of the 2029 Class with her performances leading up to her team's State appearance and with her performances actually AT State the past few days. Tanny, the 6'1 CG, demonstrated that she can do it all out of the floor. She has great size for her age at 6'1, she is extremely coordinated, she is a multiple level scoring threat, and she is someone that is athletic enough to switch onto any other type of opponent on defense that might stand in her team's way. The 2029 Class Rankings Update is in a few weeks and Tanny will be jumping up a bunch of spots. Which is pretty impressive considering she is listed at #10 right now and several prospects in front of her are being graded with a D1 level at this time.

Someone who made the most out of their, "moment", is [player_tooltip player_id='896069' first='Reese' last='DeVooght'] of DSM Christian. When you look at DSM Christian, their main producer is their PG and she always helped DeVooght get open looks. That was the case again this past week but instead, everyone was involved. The team noticed that DeVooght was on fire from deep, while making other impressive plays when the spot light wasn't even on her. They then decided as a group to work to get her the ball for more offensive attempts and it worked on splendidly as she was a top producer all week at the 3A level. That's why she is on this 3A All State Tournament Team and that's why she is going to be competing at the collegiate level following this Winter in some form.

This week capped off the high school career of [player_tooltip player_id='435773' first='Cora' last='Widel']. Widel is going to be a hooper that looks back and is proud of what she accomplished throughout the past four years. She has gotten better each season as she has grown up and that has translated on the court. The lefty was the team's MVP when it comes to bringing home the State Title last week. Widel was big in each contest she played, leading up to the 3A Championship and she was the MVP of that game as well for anyone who was watching that actually knows about Basketball. She was hitting shots from deep off the catch from the top of the key, she was killing her individual matchup near the hoop with her back the basket, and she did all of the others little things pretty well. Things like rebounding, defending, and distributing. All in all, it's been fun to watch Widel with Maquoketa and it'll be fun to watch her with Upper Iowa moving forward.
