A freshmen point guard that shows a lot of poise and talent with the basketball in her hands. She is deadly from beyond the arc with her feet set. She also has a nice step back three and side step move that allows her to free herself from defenders and get her shot off. I wonder if she plays QB for the flag football team the way she passes long balls up and down the court in transition.

The Gators of 5A Division 1 River Bluff present one of the more talented backcourts in the Palmetto State. Childers is part of that effort for the Gators. She also finished Friday evening’s contest with 4A Gray Collegiate having tallied 13 points. Childers is a skilled and young guard who is poised to only get better as her high school career continues to blossom. She has such impressive ball handling skills and chemistry with her teammates that one may mistake Childers for a veteran one or two. In the contest with the War Eagles, River Bluff connected on four 3-pointers. Three of those triples were courtesy of Childers.

There were fewer teams that won the offseason across the Palmetto State than 5A Division 1 River Bluff. Childers was one of the big additions the Gators made that will surely vault them to contender status in a tough region. With Childers, one gets accurate passing, plenty of defense and a consistent threat to place crooked numbers on the scoreboard. Locating open teammates and taking care of the ball are hallmarks to her overall game. In addition to wearing River Bluff’s colors, she also sports the red, white and blue hues of Palmetto 76ers/A’ja Wilson Elite during the spring and summer months.

One more former Crusader would take her talents a bit further up Sunset Blvd. Childers has more experience under belt than the average rising freshman as she has played at the varsity level since she was a seventh grader. Last season for SCISA 4A Northside Christian, she averaged 10.3 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals in the 26 contests she played. She too runs on the club circuit with Palmetto 76ers/A’ja Wilson Elite as does Godfrey. She is a multi-sport athlete who has also participated in cross country events. Childers places a great deal of emphasis on taking care of the ball, finding open teammates, defense and knowing when to score and when to distribute.

Childers got her SCISA 4A tournament underway in emphatic fashion for her Northside Christian team. With 23 points (a career-high), she was the key piece for the Crusaders in what was a dominant win to eliminate Laurence Manning. Childers let it be known early that this was her game as she tallied 14 of those 23 in the first quarter by itself – and all 23 in the first half. She connected on five 3-pointers for Friday’s game – three of those also happened in the first quarter. A backcourt stalwart for Northside Christian, she compliments her scoring ability with a knack for making the right passes to her teammates and constantly keeping them in the flow of a game.

There are few teams throughout the state that, arguably, have made more of an early season statement than Childers’ Crusaders. The team has started the 2024-25 campaign at 6-0 and one of those victories was an emphatic one at the GRAD Athletics Thanksgiving Tournament at Heathwood Hall over 1A Bamberg-Ehrhardt. The Crusaders won by a final of 59-23 and Childers was part of that offensive onslaught by scoring eight points. Childers first played in the varsity ranks last season and has excelled not only as a scorer but as a ball distributor and will collect her fair share of steals as a defender.
