2027 Rankings Update: 10 PGs on the Rise

After actively evaluating prospects during the high school season, we now have 425 juniors listed, with 270 ranked heading into the AAU season. Height, size, speed, athleticism, fundamental skill development, the position a player is projected to play at the next level, and performance in different competitive settings are all taken into account. Our goal with every class is to accurately group prospects into the correct categories of college potential/projection. By the end of senior year, each class breaks down into clear categories: Power Four/D1+, D1/D2+, D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+, NAIA/D3/JUCO, and NAIA/D3 reserve. As I've written many times, the levels of college basketball intersect, cross, and differ in competitive ability throughout all the divisions. All high school classes do not have the same size, talent, or level of college talent. However, based on my tracking of commitments the past three years, there appears to be a predictable trend in Michigan.   Taking data from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes into consideration, there could be approximately 410 prospects per grade who can play some level of college basketball. There will always be multisport athletes who don't play travel basketball or play in some remote area where we just don't get the opportunity to identify them for our rankings, despite our best efforts. Using averages from the past three classes, my expectations moving forward are that there could be anywhere from 10-20 D1 commits, 20-30 D2 commits, and 125-140 NAIA/D3/JUCO commits in a particular class. Applying that understanding to our rankings basically means that, depending on the class, the top 20 ranked prospects project as D1/D2+, 21-50 D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+, 51 and beyond could range anywhere from NAIA/D3 varsity, NAIA/D3 reserve, or JUCO, depending on the college program.   Here are ten point guards who moved up in our latest rankings update.     Marissa averaged 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal per game for Wayland Union in December. She posted a huge 30-point performance during a win against West Catholic and was a leader in the backcourt throughout the year. Marissa works hard to close up driving lanes, penetrates off the dribble, creates for others, and knocks down triples with confidence.     Audrey is an important role player on a very talented Rockford team. She makes the most of her opportunities, contributing as an accurate three-point shooter, excels as a facilitator, slashes to the basket, finishes with a soft touch in traffic, and applies pressure on the defensive end. Audrey is a quick, compact, and skilled guard in this class. She received an offer from Michigan Dearborn.     Ella took another step forward at Brandon this season, receiving Flint Metro League First Team honors. She produced in every category, averaging 15.1 points (33% 3PT), 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 steals, and three assists per game. Ella had a solid showing at the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase and was recognized as a top performer at the LBI April Showers Classic. Fluid handles, good court vision, penetrates off the dribble, finishes in traffic, is a three-point threat, and works hard on both ends. She has length, instincts, skill, unselfishness, and coachability you want to coach at the next level.     Katelyn impressed at the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase with her dribble penetration, defensive pressure, and commitment to making the hustle plays. She received OAA Red First Team All-League honors, averaging 14.3 points, 3.3 steals, and 3.1 assists per game for Oxford. Katelyn knocked down 55 threes. She's a crafty ball-handler, scrappy defender, and dual-threat scorer who can drive to the rim and fill it up from beyond the arc.     Madison helped Fenton secure a Flint Metro League Stripes Division title and received First Team recognition. She was a Top Performer for [program_tooltip program_id='714556' first='TC' last='Elite'] at the PGH Michigan College Tour, making an impact with her court vision, passing precision, mid-range jumpers, and defensive effort.     Grace is second all-time for career assists at Frankenmuth. She received TVC Red All-Conference First Team honors and helped the Eagles secure a share of the division title. Grace is very effective as a perimeter defender and a traditional point guard who creates off the dribble and distributes the ball to open teammates.     Miakayla turned in an OK Silver All-Conference First Team junior year at Kelloggsville. She was a Top Performer for [program_tooltip program_id='1352777' first='Grand' last='Rapids Thunder'] at the PGH MI College Tour, standing out as a slasher, facilitator, and athletic playmaker. She's athletic, works hard on defense, and rebounds.     Lily had a great day at the P2W Headliners Invitational Showcase. Her three-point shooting, skilled finishing, passing, and defensive performance resulted in All-Showcase Third Team honors. She's a quick, compact, and multidimensional guard who plays team-first basketball that translates to the next level.     Gracie is a speedy guard whose active hands create turnovers. She deflects passes, scoops up the loose ball, and pushes it the other way with pace using both hands, and finishes at the rim with her right or left. Gracie knocks down threes when given the space to shoot. Her high motor, aggressiveness, ability to penetrate off the dribble, confident ball-handling, efficiency, and scrappy defense made a great impression on our scouts at the PGH Crossroads Clash.     Mia led the Lake Fenton backcourt and received Flint Metro League Stars All-Conference Second Team honors. She's quick off the dribble, switches hands comfortably, finishes at the rim, has an extra gear when she drives, and can shoot from the perimeter. Mia is a thief on the defensive end, racking up multiple steals a game with her scrappy pressure. When she swipes the ball away, she accelerates up the court with pace using long pushouts, and finishes with a soft touch in the lane.
