After the pandemic of 2020, the landscape of girls' grassroots tournaments in the Midwest changed significantly. One of the new events over the last few years has been the Prime Event-Midwest, annually held at the Pacers Athletic Center in Westfield, Indiana. This year, most of the top prospects from Indiana were in attendance, as well as some high-profile grassroots programs from Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee, in addition to other states. Below is a look at seven scoring guards who stood out when I was able to see them in action.

Last Spring was the first time I really had an opportunity to familiarize myself with Olivia's game, and by last Summer, she was playing well. This Spring, she looks stronger, more assertive, and very physical for a perimeter player. She is willing to go inside and rebound/defend, she plays with an outstanding motor, and she's a multilevel scorer with touch from the perimeter and the ability to drive it North/South to the basket and finish. She's one of those prospects who fits an elite small college environment well because she can play two or three positions defensively, and she's versatile offensively.

The first time I saw Kyra was opening weekend in the Fall of 2023, and she was playing as a Freshman for a very talented South Bend Washington team. She is long, fluid, and smooth as an athlete, and she has a little bounce to her as well. She's one of those prospects who fits a lot of college programs because, while she isn't elite at any one thing, she's good at most things, so her versatility and ability to play multiple roles/positions stands out. She can operate an offense, create and score or facilitate, and she shoots it well enough to keep defenses honest. She's also an intense, gritty defender at times.

Halle is an extremely long, rapidly growing combo guard who I think's best days are well in front of her. She has noticeable skill, she can handle the ball, get it where it needs to go, and create space for herself. She also has some touch from the perimeter, a solid 1-dribble pull-up, and she can sit down and defend both backcourt spots. The biggest thing for her moving forward is to continue the path she's on, finish growing, get a little stronger, and work on absorbing contact. As she learns how to play lower and create contact better, she can use the free throw line better as a weapon.

I realize Muncie Central hasn't been strong in a decade, but Kei'Maija is just different, and I think she has a world of upside. After seeing her again last weekend, she is every bit of 5-9 now, pushing 5-10, and she is a shooting guard prospect more than a wing forward. She is extremely long, wiry-strong, bouncy, and active. She loves to attack the basket and finish at the rim, but she has also improved her perimeter shot quite a bit. Her shot pocket could come up a little, but she gets rid of it quickly. She's also a versatile defender who plays with some grit and attitude at that end...she plays bigger than she is.

Watching Heavynne last weekend, she is a nonstop wrecking ball always trying to get to the basket, no matter who she needs to go through/around. She is very strong for her age, physical upon attack, and she seems to like to seek contact. It draws her a lot of opportunities to get to the free throw line, where she has some touch. I just like her attitude, toughness, and physicality as a wing, and she utilizes that defensively as well. She'll get into opponents when they have the ball, she pursues rebounds and tries to get out in transition, but she can also defend undersized forwards when necessary.

Emersyn has grown a little since I saw her last Summer, and she's probably closer to 5-8 at this point. She is very long, fluidly athletic, and North/South fast. She likes to get out in transition and create offense, but on the catch in the halfcourt, she can get that first step and turn the corner quickly. She has always had some touch from the perimeter as well, but I think as she finishes growing and gets stronger, it will help her be more consistent. The same thing can probably be said defensively. She does a nice job using her length at that end, but being able to dish out contact will help her in the future as well.

Arianna was the leading Freshman scorer in the state in 2025-2026, averaging 27.2 points per game. That also put her 4th in the state, regardless of class. She is extremely long, wiry, quick, fast, and shifty with the ball. She looked closer to 5-8, maybe 5-9 last weekend, and she is a legitimate bucket-getter. She can create space and shoot it with range, she can get downhill and either pull-up in the mid-range or get to the basket, and she uses the free throw line as well. Defensively, with a little more urgency, she has the talent to become an elite on-ball defender. She's already effective as a trapper.
