Expert Analysis

Watching Heavynne last weekend, she is a nonstop wrecking ball always trying to get to the basket, no matter who she needs to go through/around. She is very strong for her age, physical upon attack, and she seems to like to seek contact. It draws her a lot of opportunities to get to the free throw line, where she has some touch. I just like her attitude, toughness, and physicality as a wing, and she utilizes that defensively as well. She’ll get into opponents when they have the ball, she pursues rebounds and tries to get out in transition, but she can also defend undersized forwards when necessary.

proved this season that she belongs at the varsity level for a young Lawrence North team. As a freshman guard, she showed confidence, toughness, and the ability to compete against experienced players throughout the year.
Beard brings energy and athleticism to the backcourt while playing with a fearless approach offensively. She attacks aggressively, handles pressure well, and continues to improve as a playmaker. Her quickness and ability to create opportunities off the dribble make her difficult to contain in transition and half-court situations.
Defensively, she competes with intensity and gives consistent effort on the perimeter. What makes Beard exciting moving forward is her potential. Gaining varsity experience this early in her career should help her continue developing into a major contributor for the Wildcats over the next several seasons.

Having followed Heavynne from her AAU days into the high school season, it’s clear she is Varsity-ready and showing impressive development. She has worked her way up to starting at the point guard position, demonstrating maturity and leadership beyond her years.
While she may not average high point totals, Heavynne plays the game the right way, contributing through smart decision-making, court vision, and relentless effort. On defense, her quickness allows her to switch on screens, fight under or over picks, and cover ground efficiently, making it difficult for opponents to find open looks. Her speed and agility also make her a constant threat in transition. At just a freshman, Heavynne is already making a significant impact on both ends of the floor and is a player to watch for the rest of the season.

Another great defender from Team 3 includes Heavynne. In collaboration with her teammates during the 5 v 5 drills, Heavynne was able to maintain the rhythm of the game by way of her defensive tactics. Swatting the ball out of the hands of the offender, staying in the way of an otherwise successful pass, and jumping for loose balls are some of the exceptional skills that Heavynne displayed at the Showcase. By forcing turnovers, Heavynne was able to make way for her teammates to get easy fast-breaks and maintain their strategic formation on the court.

Heavynne was extremely impactful on both ends for Team 3 at the Freshman Showcase, and she earned Top Performer honors as a result. Her ability to penetrate gaps with an explosive first step kept defenders on their heels. Heavynne was an excellent facilitator, and I liked her decision-making. She got to the second level, and as defenders committed to her dribble, she kicked the ball to open shooters. Heavynne swiped the ball away and took it the other way for two points. She secured an offensive rebound and scored the put-back. Heavynne changed hands quickly and earned trips to the free-throw line by driving hard to the basket. She blew by a defender with a burst down the baseline and finished with a layup off the glass.
