Memorial Weekend tends to mark the wind-down of the Spring grassroots season each year. Moving forward, prospects will begin participating with their high school teams throughout June, with the focus returning to grassroots basketball in July during the NCAA's two live periods. With that said, I wanted to take a moment and highlight a handful of 2027 prospects who I felt really helped themselves this Spring. Some are already ranked and won't necessarily move much, but they played extremely well. Others are on the watch list or not even listed and will have a shot at changing their standing when we update rankings in mid-June. Either way, I just wanted to highlight the ones who I felt stepped it up when I was able to see them.

Tatum has looked much more comfortable this Spring with DistinXion than she did last Summer. She has been known as a very good perimeter shooter, and the one thing she did all Spring was shoot it extremely well each time I saw her...and coaches noticed. She has nice length, fluid athleticism, and a good IQ for the game, but her knockdown shooting from outside will be the top reason schools recruit her, as great shooters are hard to find anymore. I do like that she also has a quiet toughness to her, she defends with length and energy, and she has communicated well this Spring.

Taylee has flown under the radar quite a bit the last couple of years, and she has really stood out this Spring. She is very athletic, she has a great frame with length, and she plays with a nonstop motor. She is great in transition, can get downhill in an instant, plus she defends with energy and rebounds her position well. She still plays a lot off of athletic talent, but she also has a lot more talent than most of her peers. As she continues learning the nuances of the game and how to play more efficiently in the half-court, she could be a high-level small college performer in the future.

Several Panthers from North Central have played well this Spring, and they will be highlighted soon enough as a team to watch in 2026-2027. Here, I chose Nieah, because she was completely unknown to me entering the Spring, and she has shown growth from week to week, to go along with the talent and potential she already possessed. She has tremendous length, some strength to her frame, and she's a solid athlete in most directions. She is more of a defender/rebounder type right now, but with more experience should come a more consistent offensive game.

I realize that Claire is already committed to Ball State University, but that doesn't change the fact she has been outstanding when I've seen her this Spring. With her team short on guards at times, she has handled the ball quite a bit, and she has taken on pressure head-on without mistakes. She looks leaner, more explosive in all directions, and she has gladly accepted a facilitator role, though she still has the ability to score it consistently from all three levels. I have also been impressed with her effort and attention at the defensive end. She is one of the most complete players in the class.

Going back to what I saw in a pair of tournaments during May, Elliot looked as though she's taking her final grassroots season as serious as possible. She is getting the most out of her ability as she can, playing with a tremendous motor, but she's also playing tough-nosed, physical, and making plays with her skillset. She is shooting it well, taking good shots, and she's attacking when she can turn the corner. She's also sitting down and using her length defensively with more urgency than I've seen out of her. She will likely be a "fit" kid who is recruited to play in certain systems over others.

Sometimes it is about opportunity, and during the 2025-2026 season, Elyssa shared the Pike frontcourt with two Seniors who were committed to Division I schools. This Spring, she is shining, and I've had a few coaches ask, "who is THAT kid?" She has nice length, good all-around athleticism, she plays with balance off of two feet a lot, and she has a variety of little post hooks and finishes in her repertoire. She's also good scoring it in the mid-post, plus she shows the same versatility defensively, as she can come out on the floor and defend wings, if necessary, or patrol the paint.

Speaking of opportunity, Eva was surrounded this year by a talented 2026 class and a talented 2028 class. She was the lone 2027 who contributed to the Spartans' success, and next season, she could have a much bigger role. This Spring, however, she has shown how talented she is. She is shooting it very well, she has nice length, good athleticism, and she plays with a tremendous motor. She does a nice job of using her length and athleticism defensively as well, and she has been great in trapping situations. As she continues to get stronger, she'll finish more consistently inside.
