Au Sable Shootout: Newcomer of the Day

The Au Sable Shootout has been a staple team camp for seven years, started by Director Ray Kimball. Located in beautiful Tawas City, teams have the opportunity to head up for a day trip or make a vacation of it by staying for both days of the shootout. The Au Sable Shootout was actually the first event I ever did with my new varsity program back in 2022. I remember how fun it was to play a unique mix of teams and stay in a resort town. As I've transitioned from coaching to scouting, I circle this event on my coverage calendar every year as a golden opportunity to find new prospects from lesser-known schools. Our goal at PGH is to cover everybody, and the Au Sable Shootout is a great stop along the way to accomplish that mission. Maddie was that player at the Au Sable Shootout. Her length and athleticism as a guard immediately stood out. She was relentless on both ends. Maddie attacked hard down the baseline to score an athletic layup and showed her outside range, drilling a straightaway three and another from the corner. She handled the ball comfortably with both hands, used a high rip move to get by a defender, and kept her balance in traffic using a euro step. Maddie took steals coast to coast twice for fast-break layups and made it look effortless, breaking away from the pack and finishing with a soft touch at the rim. She turned corners quickly to get straight downhill on drives and side-stepped a defender in the paint, transferred the ball to her left, then finished the contested bucket high off the glass. Maddie blocked a shot with aggression, grabbed offensive rebounds, and caused havoc with her defensive pressure. Her intended major is education.     Maggie is a versatile and athletic guard prospect who caught my attention with Forest Hills Northern at the Au Sable Shootout. She made a smart basket cut, caught the pass, then made a fluid transfer to her left for the and-one finish. Maggie completed the three-point play at the line. She used quick rip moves to beat defenders off the dribble and ripped right by from the corner to score a drive-by layup off two feet. Maggie showed her outside range, swishing a corner three off the hop, and applied tight on-ball pressure, poking the ball out with her quick hands. She was very active on the offensive glass, securing multiple rebounds that forced the defense to put her on the free-throw line. Maggie sprinted in to score an offensive rebound put back with her left and pushed the ball with both hands briskly up the court after a steal for a fast break layup. She is interested in pursuing a degree in nursing.     You never have to worry about effort with Molly. She flies around making plays and can fill it up from beyond the arc. Molly dove for loose balls and put her body on the line for her team. She buried two corner threes with a smooth stroke and looked to attack off the dribble. Molly used quick crossovers to shake the first defender and drove straight to the rim in top gear to earn free throws. She's a scrappy guard who delivered a notable performance at the Au Sable Shootout for Kearsley and will be a solid addition to a college program.     Audrey continues to impress, and she's definitely a hidden gem in this 2029 class. Audrey had another noteworthy day on the hardwood, standing out with Corunna at the Au Sable Shootout. She evaded a defender with a crossover, then shifted into high gear with a burst to split the gap, finishing with a strong and-one layup through contact. Audrey crashed the glass to score an offensive rebound putback off two feet, dished out great dump-off passes on the move, and swatted shots away clean at the rim.     Evelyn gave Forest Hills Northern an edge in the paint at the Au Sable Shootout. She worked hard for inside positioning and scored multiple contested layups with strength off two feet. Evelyn cut to the basket, sealed a defender with a strong stance, caught the entry pass with good hands, and finished off two. She made the same play again but scored through contact for an and-one bucket. Evelyn grabbed an offensive rebound and scored the putback. She's a physical forward and multisport athlete who competes in softball and swimming as well. Evelyn is looking to pursue a degree in Pre-Med.
