All one has to do is mention the phrase “live period” to many a high school prospect to get one really amped up for competition.

The latest live period gathering took place this past weekend. A week after the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (SCBCA) held its boys live event at the Riverview Park Activities Center, the three-day girls live period festivities also emanated from the same venue in North Augusta.

We at Prep Girls Hoops made the trip to Riverview Park for Friday's slate of contests. Friday was the busiest day of those three days. Our post-event coverage continues by mentioning a number of the rising sophomores that were ready to hoop by the Savannah River.

Considering the laundry list of Division I offers Dates has already garnered, many a college coach was on hand to watch Dates and her Goose Creek group match up against defending 4A Upper State champion Westside. Dates displayed plenty of Power Four-level skills to the tune of 15 points. She is taller than many of her peer guards and that helps when looking to corral one's own rebound in case of a missed attempt. An element of her overall playmaking capabilities includes the ability to locate attacking lanes to the basket, finish at the rim and fall to the floor if necessary to complete a play.

Ferguson has more experience than the average rising sophomore considering she has played at the varsity level since she was in the seventh grade. That experience more than displayed itself as Ferguson and her 5A Ridge View team put together an emphatic performance against Summerville. Even though Ferguson is a guard, she actually was one of Ridge View's leading rebounders last season. Ferguson also understands when the times are correct to pass and to score. She averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals last season in Blazers purple and silver. Ferguson was one of four from the class of 2029 on last season's Ridge View team in coach Aaron Lucas' first year at the helm.

Following a pair of seasons in the 5A realm, Williamson's Eastside team is set to return to the 4A classification beginning with the 2026-27 season. Williamson put together one of the breakout freshman seasons of anyone in South Carolina as she would play in 21 games last season as an Eagle. She would average 9.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per matchup. The Eagles have a promising young core sure to make its transition back to 4A a smooth one and Williamson is part of that Eastside nucleus. Last season's Eagles group was freshman-heavy – Williamson was one of seven Eagles 2029s.

Those that have watched 5A Boiling Springs over the last several seasons understood that the Bulldogs were well-established in its backcourt. Any successful team needs consistency from both its backcourt and its frontcourt. Darville can provide that in the interior for Boiling Springs. Darville averaged 7.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game last season. What makes her particularly difficult to game plan for is her ability to play as either a guard or a forward. When she is in a team's lineup as a guard, she has an advantage over her peer guards with her height, and her length can disrupt an opposing team's passing lanes.

Unlike most teams participating at this past weekend's SCBCA Live, defending 4A Upper State champion Westside began its weekend at Riverview Park on Friday with contests against both 5A Division 2 Lower State finalists from last season – Goose Creek and Berkeley. The star Westside rising sophomore is entering her fourth season at the varsity level and averaged 12.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.7 assists in 28 games last season. Marshall greatly helped her Rams to a 43-39 victory over the Gators in one of the more anticipated contests of the weekend's play. Her height advantage over many of her peer guards displays itself as a scorer and all-around playmaker. That height also enables her to grab a large number of rebounds and she is a strong defender willing to accept tough assignments on that end of the floor.
