The Prep Girls Hoops Texas Tip-Off featured some of the top talent from across the region, and while there were plenty of standout performances throughout the event, the backcourt players consistently found ways to impact games at a high level. Whether it was scoring, facilitating, defending, or leading their teams in key moments, these guards proved why they are among the most intriguing prospects to watch moving forward.   Great guard play often determines the outcome of games, and throughout the weekend several players showcased the complete package. These athletes displayed excellent court vision, poise under pressure, and the ability to create offense for themselves and their teammates. Their confidence with the ball in their hands allowed them to dictate tempo while making winning plays on both ends of the floor.   One of the biggest themes throughout the event was versatility. Many of the guards were not only primary ball handlers but also capable scorers from all three levels. They knocked down perimeter shots, attacked the paint with aggression, and finished through contact. Their ability to read defenses and make quick decisions kept opposing teams on their heels throughout the weekend.   Defensively, the backcourt talent was equally impressive. Several guards made their presence felt with relentless on-ball pressure, active hands, and the ability to disrupt passing lanes. Their effort and competitiveness created turnovers that led to transition opportunities and momentum-changing plays.   The Texas Tip-Off also highlighted a number of rising prospects whose stock continues to trend upward. She handled the ball like a guard, created separation off the dribble, and demonstrated the ability to score from all three levels. At times, her body language and approach suggested she was relying on her superior talent rather than embracing the small details that separate great players from elite ones.   The reality is Monroe's skill level is undeniable. She possesses the tools that coaches cannot teach—size, ball-handling ability, scoring touch, court vision, and natural feel for the game. The next step in her development will be maximizing those gifts through consistent effort, leadership, and attention to detail on every possession. Iyana Wilson delivered another strong performance at the Texas Tip-Off, showcasing the skill set that continues to make her one of the more exciting guards in the 2027 class. The quick, crafty point guard controlled the tempo throughout the weekend, using her elite ball-handling ability and explosive first step to create opportunities for herself and her teammates.   Wilson consistently broke down defenders off the dribble, attacked gaps in the defense, and displayed excellent court vision when making reads. She proved capable of scoring from multiple levels, knocking down jumpers while also using her speed and body control to finish around the basket. Her ability to make plays in transition added another dimension to her offensive game.   Defensively, Wilson competed with intensity, applying pressure on opposing ball handlers and creating turnovers with active hands and anticipation. Her toughness, leadership, and high basketball IQ were evident throughout the event.   Despite her size, Wilson continues to play with confidence beyond her years. Stockton's ability to play within the flow of the offense was one of her biggest strengths. She handled defensive pressure well, displayed solid court vision, and made the right reads when opportunities presented themselves. Whether operating as a point guard or off the ball, she showed the versatility to contribute in multiple roles while keeping her team organized and productive.   Offensively, Stockton proved she can score from the perimeter and create opportunities off the dribble. She knocked down jumpers with confidence, attacked openings when defenders overplayed her, and showed a feel for when to be aggressive versus when to facilitate. Her basketball IQ and patience allowed her to consistently make winning plays throughout the event.   Defensively, Stockton competed with energy and purpose. She stayed engaged on the ball, communicated with teammates, and displayed the effort coaches look for on every possession. Her willingness to do the little things and play both ends of the floor added value beyond the stat sheet.   As she continues to develop physically and add strength to her game, Stockton has the tools to become a highly impactful guard. Her combination of skill, court awareness, composure, and competitiveness makes her one of the rising prospects in the 2029 class and a player whose stock continues to trend upward.     McCleary plays with confidence and toughness. She is comfortable with the ball in her hands, can initiate offense, and has shown the ability to score from multiple levels. She can knock down the perimeter shot, pull up in the midrange, and attack the rim when openings are available. Her quickness and handle allow her to create separation, while her court vision gives her the ability to find teammates and keep the offense moving.   What stands out is her competitive approach. McCleary plays with energy, shows a willingness to take on challenges, and has the tools to become a steady lead guard as she continues to mature. Her ability to play both guard spots adds value, especially as she develops her decision-making, strength, and consistency.   As a young 2029 prospect, McCleary has a strong foundation to build on. With continued work on pace, finishing, shot consistency, and defensive pressure, she has the upside to become a reliable two-way guard who can help control the game on both ends of the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='1239652' first='Meara' last='Russell'] is a 5'9” combo guard/shooting guard in the 2027 class who brings size, versatility, and a strong all-around skill set to the backcourt. Russell attends Gravette High School in Arkansas and competes on the club circuit with the NWA Bruins.   At the Texas Tip-Off, Russell showed why she is a prospect worth tracking. She has the ability to play on or off the ball, giving her team flexibility in different lineups. Offensively, she is comfortable creating her own shot, attacking gaps, and spacing the floor as a perimeter threat. Her size at the guard position allows her to see over defenders, make reads, and finish through contact when she gets downhill.   Russell plays with a steady pace and does not look rushed when pressured. She understands how to get into the flow of the game, makes smart decisions, and can impact winning without needing to dominate the ball. Her court vision, scoring ability, and ability to play multiple guard spots make her a valuable piece in the backcourt.   Defensively, Russell has the tools to guard multiple positions. Her length and frame allow her to contest shots, pressure the ball, and compete against physical guards. As she continues to improve her consistency, strength, and overall aggression, her upside will continue to grow.
