Danyle’s Picks: Freshman Showcase First and Second Teams

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase brought together a talented group of young prospects, giving players an opportunity to compete, showcase their skill sets, and make an early impression. After watching the action throughout both 3v3 and 5v5, I put together my First and Second Team selections based on the players who made the biggest impression on me. From scoring and playmaking to defense, rebounding, and effort, these players found different ways to impact the game. The Team 10 guard consistently impacted the game on both ends of the floor, playing with poise and showing an impressive feel for the game. She handled pressure well, used a strong handle to create advantages, and displayed excellent court vision, whether she was pushing the pace in transition, attacking the lane and finding the open player, or delivering a well-timed dump-off to the post. Carmen also showed her ability to score in multiple ways, using her strength to absorb contact on drives and knocking down shots from behind the arc. Defensively, she was just as impressive, anticipating passes, jumping passing lanes for multiple steals, taking one coast-to-coast, and using her timing to record blocks from the guard position. During 3v3 action, the Team 2 guard immediately made her presence felt defensively, using her timing and instincts to come away with multiple blocks. In 5v5 play, Bailey showed just how versatile her offensive game can be, knocking down a stop-and-pop mid-range jumper while also stretching the defense with numerous makes from behind the arc. She was equally effective around the basket, displaying impressive footwork with her back to the basket and showing she is comfortable creating and finishing inside. Bailey also consistently worked the offensive glass, pulling down numerous rebounds and turning several of those extra possessions into putback buckets. On the defensive end, she continued to challenge shots and added more blocks during 5v5 action. During 3v3 action, the Team 2 guard showed her versatility early, displaying good footwork in the lane, using her length to come away with a block, and stepping out to knock down back-to-back threes. That all-around play carried into 5v5, where she connected on another shot from behind the arc, showed confidence handling the ball, and continued to make her presence felt defensively with another block. Andie ran the floor hard in transition, stayed active on the offensive glass for putback opportunities, and turned defense into offense after a steal by delivering a dime to a teammate on the break. One of her more impressive sequences came after securing a defensive rebound, pushing the ball coast-to-coast herself, and finishing through contact at the rim. During 3v3 action, the Team 1 guard showed her ability to create off the bounce, using a quick first step to get past her defender before extending for a tough scoop finish at the rim. Her playmaking really came through during 5v5, where she consistently played with her head up and displayed excellent court vision, delivering well-timed passes and creating opportunities for her teammates. Ella was effective putting pressure on the defense off the dribble, turning the corner quickly and getting downhill into the paint. She brought that same energy to the defensive end, competing on every possession and hitting the floor multiple times for loose balls. Ella also made an impact on the glass from the guard position, tracking down rebounds and staying active on the offensive boards, where she converted several second-chance opportunities into putback buckets. Her combination of vision, quickness, effort, rebounding, and ability to create for others made her one of my selections for the Second Team All-Showcase Team.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
