Sophomore ID Camp Preview: Tone Setters and Playmakers

The Sophomore ID Camp will feature a lot of talented players who are capable of making an impact in several different ways. Shooters will stretch the floor, point guards will control the pace, playmakers will create opportunities, and defensive standouts will provide the spark. Each prospect brings something different to the court, but they all share the ability to set the tone. In this article, we focus on a few of the tone-setters and playmakers who will be in the building for the Sophomore ID Camp.    [player_tooltip player_id='1261851' first='Shea' last='Donovan'] is another point guard with the cachet, the “it factor,” and the talent to set the tone for the showcase almost by herself. Donovan plays with tremendous intensity and brings an attacking mentality every time she steps on the floor. She is a gifted playmaker who can get to the rim and score, but what separates her is the way she reads defenses. Step up too soon to slow down her penetration, and she will pick you apart with the pass. Donovan is especially dangerous in transition, where her basketball IQ, vision, anticipation, and feel for the game really shine. She seems to see plays developing before everyone else does. Donovan is one of the top players in the class, and when she gets rolling, she has the ability to dictate the pace and set the tone for everyone around her     [player_tooltip player_id='1003136' first='Skylar' last='Wilson'] is another playmaker who will be in the building. Wilson really came into her own at the point guard position this summer, establishing herself as a floor general throughout the camps and showcases. She can knock down the three, create opportunities for others, and does a good job of getting her teammates involved. What separates Wilson, however, is her ability to defend the ball. The young point guard is perhaps even more impactful on the defensive end. Wilson can pick a ballhandler's pocket off the dribble and is extremely savvy in the passing lanes, where her anticipation creates steals and transition opportunities. Wilson can set the tone for a game with her defense alone.     [player_tooltip player_id='1764364' first='Janiyah' last='Span'] is a playmaker who can flat-out pick 'em up and put 'em down. She brings speed, great anticipation, and the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. What separates the young guard is her ability to raise her level of play when the pressure is on. Span was arguably the MVP of the Rural Division at the State Championships, helping lead her team to a state title with timely three-point shooting, big plays, and relentless energy up and down the court. She has already shown that when the moment gets bigger, so does her game. Span is a proven playmaker, winner, and tone setter.     [player_tooltip player_id='1320106' first='London' last='Williams'] is “Miss Excitement,” which is another way of saying playmaker and tone setter. Williams can flat-out handle the basketball and is arguably one of the best ball-handlers in the 2029 class. Her ability to handle the ball, get to the rim, and finish with creativity and a high degree of difficulty is one of her biggest strengths. Williams can also pass the rock, using her handle and penetration to draw defenders before finding shooters on the perimeter or hitting cutters to the basket. She plays with flair, creativity, and confidence, and when Williams has the ball in her hands, something exciting always seems to be on the verge of happening.     [player_tooltip player_id='1279681' first='Veda' last='Murphy'] is a tone setter who can impact the game from several areas of the court. Her versatility and athleticism immediately stand out, as she can rebound, attack the rim, and score the basketball. Murphy has great length and impressive elevation, which show up when she rises for shots and goes after rebounds in traffic. Murphy was a standout last year at the Flagler Camp, showcasing her versatility. She puts pressure on defenses and is difficult to match up with when she gets going. Murphy is the type of player who can turn heads at the showcase with her combination of length, versatility, and athleticism.     [player_tooltip player_id='1320107' first='Gabby' last='Webber'] turned heads at the FABC Showcase this summer, and she will be a player to watch at the showcase. Webber combines impressive length with ball skills and a versatile scoring package. She can score from the perimeter, put the ball on the floor, and attack the rim, making her a difficult matchup. Her size and length allow her to play bigger, while her skill set gives her the ability to attack the rim. Her versatility allows her to impact the game in different ways and set the tone on both ends of the floor. Webber has the tools, versatility, and upside to be one of the most intriguing talents in the building.
