Fall Leagues Showcasing Young Talent

Not every shot fell. Not every defensive assignment was executed. Not every pass was pinpoint, every pick was effective, or every layup finished. In fact, quite a few opportunities were missed. But that's fall league basketball. This is the time when teams work through rotations, experiment with different combinations on the floor, evaluate personnel, and determine how players respond in different situations. It's less about perfection and more about preparation for the season ahead. Along the way, several young players have shown flashes of what they can become. Their potential is evident, and as they continue to develop, these young prospects could play important roles in the success of their teams this season. In this article, we take a closer look at some of the young players who have made an impression and given us plenty to watch as the regular season approaches.    [player_tooltip player_id='912252' first='Naomi' last='Gill'] showed a high basketball IQ and an ability to see the floor, including a nice pass over the top of the defense. Gill is still perfecting her attack game, but her ability to attack left and right was observed. She played aggressively and got downhill and scored on several floaters in the paint. Gill also knocked down the three displaying a nice touch and solid form. On the defensive end, Gill was physical and applied great pressure on the ball and on the help side.     [player_tooltip player_id='1852678' first='Autumn' last='Forney'] consistently provides a spark when she is on the floor, whether offensively, defensively, or in transition. During fall league play this week, Forney applied tight on-ball pressure defensively, ran the floor well in transition, and showed her aggressiveness by attacking the rim and getting to the foul line. Despite her youth, she continues to show that she can make an impact in multiple areas of the game. Forney was equally effective during the travel period over the summer. The young has a nose for the ball and finds different ways to impact the game.     [player_tooltip player_id='1867066' first='Bella' last='Carbert'] continued to show the versatility that made people take notice over the summer. The young guard can run the point or play at the two, giving her the ability to impact the game from multiple spots. On the wing, Carbert attacked the baseline and put pressure on the defense, getting to the rim and finding an open teammate when help arrived. Offensively, Carbert has the ability to score from all three levels, and on defense she uses her quickness and is tough covering on the ball.     [player_tooltip player_id='1100922' first='Keeley' last='Mosley'] showed some flashes during the Fall league, especially in the transition game. Mosley does a good job reading the play, getting out on gthe break, and finishing at the rim. She also does a good job of getting open for good looks. She has the ability to shoot the midrange shot and the three. As her game develops, she will figure out which to take depending on the defense she is facing. Offensively, Mosley showed good ball-handling ability and good court vision.     [player_tooltip player_id='1314253' first='Jalaun' last='Meeks'] showed some flashes at the point guard position and continues to improve with her decision-making. The freshman did a good job of getting the ball to her scorers on the wing and finding teammates on the inside. Meeks also showed that she can create for herself, attacking the rim and converting in the lane. She has good speed and quickness and competed well on the defensive end. Her game is still developing, but Meeks showed encouraging signs for a young freshman point guard.
