Florida Sophomore ID Camp Team Six

There were a few players on this team I was familiar with heading into Sunday, but for the most part these were players I had not seen before. Several stood out with their play on the offensive end in particular scoring the basketball in a variety of ways. Most of their scoring came in transition where multiple players knocked shots from the perimeter and got to the rim and scored. This was a talented group of players that was fun to watch. Ruby had the basketball in her hands playing as the de facto point guard in most of the game I saw. It was a good look into what will probably be here primary position on the next level where she currently holds offers from Tampa and Murray State. She knocked down several three point shots off the bounce and in rhythm, more than one on the break showing off her quick release. She is a strong player who brushed off contact from defenders while maintaining her dribble and keeping her head up. I saw her throughout the travel ball season with [program_tooltip program_id='931970' first='Duval' last='Elite'] at Select Events where she also performed very well. Newsome was one of the very best post prospects at the event justifying her number one ranking at her position in the state. She was a rim protector while blocking and altering shots throughout the camp. Aliah did a good job and was active rebounding the basketball on both ends of the court and during 3 versus 3 play. She has great lateral movement and mobility for a player her age and size. Offensively, she is just scratching the surface, but the foundation is there for her to be a consistent low block scorer the next three years of high school. Beasley was on fire from three during one stretch of the first game I saw her team play. A couple had me questioning her decision to let it fly from where she was on the court, but they quickly went away after she continued to make shots. She was very effective with hesitation moves and change of speed dribbling the basketball before quickly rising up and letting the ball go. Brooke was also very crafty getting by defenders with the previously mentioned ball handling and made the right read and look most of the time. Edwards was one of the more impressive slashers to the rim with the basketball that I saw all day on Sunday. Not only did she get to the basket on several occasions using her quickness and agility to elude defenders, but Sa'kayla converted tough shots over defenders and through contact when she got to the rim. She is a long kid who plays bigger than 5'7. Edwards shot the ball well from the perimeter in addition to getting into the painted area and scoring. Cole was one of the best all-around players I watched and would have easily been a strong contender for the All-Defensive team if there were one. She agitated ball handlers with pressure using her quick feet and hands resulting in multiple stelas and deflections. She also blocked a three-point shot by hustling over to help from top of the key to the wing where the shooter was. She also contributed offensively with excellent ball handling as she held off defenders with her strength and delivered very good passes that were on time and target. She is a scrappy unselfish player who should be a good player on the next level. She showed good form and follow through on her release shooting the basketball. McClendon has very good size and is a very good athlete showing quickness and bounce off the ground. She used her length to finish over smaller defenders multiple time in and around the painted area, while also showing off the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter. Jillayah played with a lot of energy the entire four hours and was rewarded with putbacks and a couple of different times for getting to the right place at the right time. McClendon looked her best sprinting out on the fast break and finishing at the basket. Charlee is fairly new to basketball, but the instincts are there especially on the defensive end. She used her agility and quickness to keep her defender in front of her when she was on the ball and did a nice job stepping in and recovering to her man when giving help. Allen was not afraid to get in the action in the paint and mix it up where she was able to grab a few loose basketballs and opportunistic rebounds. When given the opportunity she shot the ball from the perimeter and did a good job finding open teammates. Serena has size you do not find often, and you certainly cannot teach and she did a nice job using it to her advantage at the camp. Samhoury was a solid defender in the post where she did a nice job extending her arms high and keeping them straight a majority of the time. She rebounds the ball in her area and has the mobility to track down missed shots as well. Offensively, she will continue to get better. I really liked the fact that she was willing to step out to the midrange, both on the baseline and at the free throw line and shoot the ball and not just stand on the block. With continued development in that area, she should have a very solid last three years playing in high school. Marie played with a lot of effort and energy for team six during the 3 versus 3 portion of the camp as well as during the 5 on 5 scrimmages. She performed well in all areas and played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. When her teammates got in the groove offensively, Marie did a nice job finding the hot hand and extending her team's lead. She rebounded the ball and defended well for her posititon.
