About Jillayah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I control the ball well, I can see the floor, I give directions to my team as we play, and overall I'm competitive. My mental isn't fully there yet, but I'm only 14!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I struggle mentally when im not playing at the level i know I can play at. However, once I'm locked in, I'm locked in. Personaillty wise, I'm a very fun, outgoing, and goofy person.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Not currently and all of the awards i have received are sports related!

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Mostly, I'd say my leadership and teamwork has improved alot. Always being the youngest in the team where everyone is older is difficult to gain their trust. My leadership in older teams is developing because all three of my middle school teams I led. Teaching others teamwork is a very important character trait.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Bad coaches bringing me down has been a challenge playing up. Bad coaching skills or communication towards me as a younger player has been a challenge.

What type of college are you looking for?

Im not sure yet. I'm watching everyone recieve offers and just getting started!

Jillayah McClendon Jillayah McClendon Jillayah McClendon 5'7" | PG/SG SLAM Tampa | 2029 FL is part of a young core at SLAM Tampa that is on a scoring tear, with her and two other teammates averaging double figures this season. McClendon isn’t just impressive for her scoring, as she is averaging 13.9 PPG, but also for her all-around impact, posting 3.9 assists per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, and 4.8 steals per game. Her ability to affect the game on both ends of the floor is evident, highlighted by two games this season with double-digit steals.

McClendon has the ability to make a major impact on her team’s success during a deep 2A playoff run. Consistently producing in a win or go home environment would further prove that she is built for the big stage.

One of the first plays I saw Jillayah make was her making the extra pass and setting up her teammate for a better look. I really enjoyed watching her hustle and her motor as she was relentless on every play and rebounded it well with that intensity. She hit a nasty shot fake that sent two defenders flying and made the easy lay after that. Defensively, she had very active hands and that motor allowed her to be non-stop with her pressure.

Jillayah is a Pinellas County hooper that I’ve vaguely seen in action against older players, so I am excited to see her in this event against players her own age. She has nice handles and good change of pace when bringing the ball up or floor or attacking the basket. Her motor and hustle will help her standout in a showcase setting like this.

Jillayay McClendon had a good showing at the camp. McClendon is a high-energy player with has good speed and can get down-hill to the basket. Defensively, she has quick feet and plays with great anticipation. McClendon definitely was an “attention-getter” at the Gator For a Day Elite Camp, and she will be a player to watch this upcoming season.
