About Aliah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a physical, versatile forward who plays with intensity on both ends. I rebound aggressively, defend multiple positions, and can finish through contact or stretch the floor. I bring energy, leadership, and a team-first mentality every time I step on the court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a competitive, focused mentality—I’m driven to improve every day and never back down from a challenge. I lead by example, stay coachable, and bring positive energy to every practice and game. I’m confident, humble, and always team-first.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

NJHS/ Honor Roll

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed leadership by setting the tone on and off the court—encouraging teammates, staying accountable, and leading by example. I’ve also grown in teamwork through playing multiple sports and understanding how to adapt to different roles. Off the court, I’m involved in community service, giving back through local volunteer work.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Yes, managing two sports at a high level while maintaining strong academics has definitely been a challenge. Playing up in older age groups pushes me physically and mentally, and balancing basketball, softball, and school takes focus and discipline. But it’s taught me time management, resilience, and how to stay committed to my goals no matter what.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college with a competitive basketball program, strong academic support, and a team culture that feels like family. I want a school where I can grow as both a student-athlete and a leader, and be pushed to reach my full potential on and off the court.

Aliah Newsome Aliah Newsome Aliah Newsome 6'1" | SF/PF Cardinal Mooney | 2029 State FL was one of the more impressive young “power” forwards in the building. The freshman brought a physical edge to the paint, finishing through contact, and showed touch and control on her shots. Newsome also did a good job of controlling the glass, securing any rebound in her area. Several times, she literally took the rebound from the opponent, displaying power and savviness. Newsome was also impressive with strong timing as a shot blocker. Several of her blocks were instinctive, while other blocks displayed solid anticipation on some others. Her presence defensively made a noticeable impact, and with her size and ability to disrupt shots around the rim, she is eventually going to become an even more intimidating presence in the paint.
