The young star showed the state how good of a player she is last season by earning herself an All-Region nod. She will have potential to be an All-State selection in 2026-2027. She is a very talented scorer who can score from all three levels. She has an impressive first step and a good change of speed and direction. She makes good decisions on offense and is a formidable defender. Piper is poised for another fantastic season.

Woods was another player who had a terrific season last year and should be ready to follow it up with another impressive performance. She moves light on her feet yet retains her strength near the basket. She continues to impress near the basket, where she does a great job of sealing defenders and finishing through contact. She is a menace getting to the free-throw line and hits her free-throws at a high percentage. Her combination of strength, touch, and shooting put her near the top of the 2028 class. I expect her to have plenty of options when it comes to college hoops.

Max is only an eighth grader but debuted last year on the varsity as a seventh grader. Not only was just on the varsity roster, she contributed big time in big games. She has a chance to be a special player. She is very fast and has a quick first step. Her ability to get up the floor is fun to watch. She is savvy with her finishes but can also stretch the floor from deep. I expect big things from this young talent going forward.

Kinslee should be Valley City's starting point guard this season. She played a ton of quality minutes last year as a sophomore and is ready to take the next step in her game. She plays the point guard position really well. She sees the floor, can handle the ball against full-court pressure, she initiates the offense, and makes great decisions with the ball. Kinslee has a smooth shot and is capable of knocking down the deep three. Glandt also plays fantastic defense; she is tough, gritty, and difficult to drive past. I look forward to watching her this season.

Burchill was a highly sought after recruit in the NSIC, one of the top Division 2 leagues in the country. MSUM was lucky enough to land her after Katie committed this summer to the Dragons on July third. Valley City has won the last two Class A State Championships largely in part to Burchill's fantastic play. Valley will have a tougher route to another title but could have a chance with some of their key athletes returning. Katie does a lot of things well but the most impressive part of her game is how physical she is around the basket. Look for another All-State season from the Hi-Liners' star in 2027.

Nielson is another All-Region returner for the Hi-Liners. She compliments Burchill well and gives Valley City one of the best front-courts in the state. She can play inside and out and play the hi-low game with Katie. Skye is another physically strong player who can move opponents by the basket for great scoring position. She is a great rebounder who does a good job of securing the ball. I expect another All-Region performance from Skye this season.
