Stars Fall League: Prospects Making Noise + Game Recaps

Another year gone by means another year for the longest running Fall League in the upstate to return. This year features more girls teams than previously and Prep Hoops is here to cover them. Let's take a look at some of the match ups from the Tuesday during week 3 of action in Spartanburg. Leading the way for them were sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='1882717' first='Kayla' last='Land'] and Amauri Wilson, with Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1883718' first='Ashanti' last='Fenderson'], providing stability on the floor. For Riverside, they were led by sophomores Rachel Parker, Kenna Mcdonald, and Anna Alewine. With Rachel and Kenna pushing the pace, Riverside found themselves at the free throw a line time and time again for most of the first half. Each time Riverside was able to string multiple stops together Woodmont responded in kind. Woodmont's large runs helped them pull away late in the first half and never look back. Final score Woodmont 63 - Riverside JV 18   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Riverside vs. Landrum </h3>   Simply the best girls game of the night. Riverside would go on to win this one in the last 30 seconds compliments of the "and 1" by 8th grader [player_tooltip player_id='1606100' first='Morgan' last='Pierotti']. Final score Riverside 43 - Landrum 41. Morgan led all scorers on the night accounting for 19 of her teams points. Landrum was led by All-State standout [player_tooltip player_id='1131791' first='Delaney' last='Caldwell'] as she dominated in transition either pushing the ball herself, or throwing outstanding passes to her teammates up the floor. She showcased a variety of moves to get to her spots on the floor, as well as an improved strength shielding off defenders on her way to the rim. Other standouts in this game were the physical sophomore Leena Schembra for Landrum, and [player_tooltip player_id='872291' first='Jasleen' last='Lombana'] for Riverside. Jasleen showed a new level of speed with the ball and her usual shooting touch, while Leena could be found mixing it up in the paint on nearly every possession. Both teams have a solid mix of talent that will certainly make them tough outs on any given night this year. Look for one of Riversides additional young players, Kennedy Frazier to develop into a solid roll players this season.    The 2029 prospect was the second leading scorer in tonight's game. She showed off her shooting touch early in the first half hitting 2 threes on the way to 9 first half points. Once the defense took away her shooting she was able to drive and dish or drive and score throughout the rest of the contest. She was poised and played with a higher motor than previously seen. Kayla has a good upside and should provide another consistent scoring option for her team.     The 2028 combo guard played in great compliment to her teammates tonight. While she primarily impacted the game in passing lanes, she was able to showcase her track speed on more than one occasion on her way to the rim. Amauri's impact was a large part of the Woodmont run that separated the game in the later stages of the first half.     Delaney's size and athleticism from the PG position immediately jump of the floor. Standing now at 5'11 she is able to see the floor fully and dictate action in a variety of ways. From out rebounding smaller and less athletic guards for easy second chance opportunities, to using her length and speed to dribble by multiple defenders in transition, Delaney is the complete package. It is clear to see why she has no shortage of high major schools picking up their recruitment.     Known primarily for her shooting first, Jasleen has worked hard to prove she can impact a game in more than one way. She got the scoring started for Riverside tonight with a deep 3, followed by a rebound and coast to coast layup through a retreating defense. Add to her scoring an improved speed, athleticism, and defense and Jasleen is on her way to a strong junior season.     Morgan led all scorers with 19 points and the biggest bucket of the game to clinch the win for Riverside. She was able to score at all three levels tonight and showed solid on the ball defense. As she gets stronger and sees the floor better she will be big lift for her squad offensively and defensively. Look for her to step up as the primary outside shooting option after Jasleen, while feeding off the opportunities senior Ansley Lagrange sets up for her. With the departure of Kydnal Haroski to college, Riverside will need every bit of Morgan's scoring ability this season.     A workhorse in the middle for Landrum, Leena was the second leading score for her squad tonight. From short corner jump shots, rebounds and baskets through contact, and trips to the free throw line, she seemingly got what she wanted at will tonight. Her high motor and physical play kept creating one opportunity after another. As she continues to improve her ball handling look for her to be a match up problem as the Landrum season moves along.     A promising 2029 prospect that showed nice shooting touch from deep and an ability to get through lane, finishing with contact. She finished the contest as the 3rd leading scorer for Riverside tonight and defended well throughout the contest.
